Dreger (on TSN): “But beyond that, I don’t hear any bigger names from a goaltending perspective. But even those players – the New York Rangers, based on the interest they’re getting in Cam Talbot, they’re just giggling in the background. They know he’s a good goalie. They know that. But they’re going to hit a home run on rate of return. Dreger (Twitter): Cam Talbot is a hot commodity. Edmtn, Cgy, SJ, Dallas + Florida have expressed interest. Multiple trade offers. First 3 most likely targets. Depending on what we get in this trade, Hank going down and forcing Cam to shoulder the load for 2 months will end up being a huge blessing in disguise. Cam ran with the opportunity, and now people are banging at the door to get him. My guess is Edmonton, and I also think he could be packaged with Klien. Chiarelli knows he needs to build up that blueline. Do we just take the first and a prospect? Do we get a first and then turn around and trade it for a scoring winger or sit on it? Do we get a 2nd and a proven NHLer (Yakupov?) Talbot/Klein for Yakupov/EDM 2nd? Can we get/fit Eberle? EDM retains salary? This trade will go a long way in determining the direction of the offseason.
I'm not huge on Yakupov Prod... I know he's the player they Oilers will likely offer up and be willing to move.. This team doesn't need a lazy Russian
I don't want any part of Yakupov, not another smallish right winger who shoots left handed...no thanks..another alexander daigle
Prod, they aren't trading Klein IMO. Boyle is done. They have only 2 right defenseman unless AV uses McIlrath. Anything can happen but I don't see them moving Klein. Talbot was a blessing in disguise. It might make up for Sather trading away so much of the future.
Steve Zipay ?@stevezipay 3m3 minutes ago A Cam Talbot trade could get them a second-rounder, plus, we're hearing
If we can get a pick in the 30's and a little more for Talbot that would be great. Hayes made up for dealing a late 1st rounder. If we can get a pick back in the 30's for Talbot, that makes up for dealing another of the late 1st rounders, and we also got an extra 2nd from TB, which helps. We have a clear 2 or 3 year window still open (second favorite in Vegas for the cup next year). Puts us in a pretty solid spot overall IMO.
6/18/15 | 2:15PM: The Sabres are interest in Talbot as well. (Dreger) Edmonton, Buffalo and San Jose are “pretty eager” while Dallas, Florida and Calgary have “some interest as well.” (Dreger) 12:14PM: Jim Matheson says that he doesn’t see the Oilers offering more than the 33rd pick and defensemen Martin Marincin.
A few Canadian papers were reporting that EDM is offering the 16th overall for Talbot plus, and Sather is trying to leverage that against DAL for the 12th. Take that for what it's worth. As for Yak...yes he's more of an undersized forward, and yes he's a left shot. But he's a pure snipe artist (we currently have none) and he's young enough where he could still shed the "lazy" label, especially if our room and leaders are as good as we all think. Would rather have someone bigger and right handed, but it's not just who we want it's also who is available. It also works from a cap perspective too...not many guys with his talent are going to be available with a 2.5m hit. All these big right handed wingers we want...where does the cap space come from? Just ideas..he's not my ideal target either.
If I could get Yak for Talbot I do that in a second. If I could get # 16 for Talbot, I would be good with that also (maybe we throw back a later pick with Cam).
Think it's time to look at Buffalo. Perhaps a second, Bailey and McCabe. Bailey who is big and a righty shot. Forgot Armia was dealt.
Wow, I'd be pretty surprised if they got a top 15-ish pick for Talbot, especially since he's a UFA after the year. Unless that team already plans on extending him. They should run with that if they get it, even though there's slim pickings on the goalie market for backups. Getting a 1st for a good year and a half of Talbot is a pretty solid return if it happens.
6/18/15 |8:37PM: Dreger said on NHL Live “The Oilers are at the top of the list and are absolutely eager to grab hold of Talbot. This could happen sooner than later.” (KK) 8:16PM: On TSN’s That’s Hockey, Dreger said that trade talks around Talbot are significant and that the Oilers are “absolutely in” with the Sabres “equally interested and the Sharks behind them. He said that Talbot will be the first domino to fall and that his sense is that a deal could happen as soon as the next few days and “certainly before the draft.”
The Oilers 21st overall and Marincin would be a pretty good return. He's a solid bottom pair prospect. Better than that one trick pony bully they wasted a top 10 on.
The Oilers don't have 21st overall, the Sabres do. The Oilers have 16 and 33 overall. I would be happy with 33 and Martin Marincin, but I am starting to think we could get the Oilers 16th pick for Cam (sure some other pieces will be in the mix). Looks like the Oilers really want Cam, so I bet it gets done and we end up with the 16th pick as the main piece.
I'd be pretty shocked if they got a pick as high as 16, not to mention other things thrown in, for only possibly one year of Talbot. Edmonton must feel confident they would be able to re-sign him.
Talbot is a good guy so I don't think there will be any problem signing him. I'm sure NY granted his agent permission to talk to them already. They don't need the 16th pick. They have a ton of young talent already. Glass would be a good fit there and would provide badly needed leadership. I could see NY sending Talbot there along with Glass and Allen. Allen could help them. I'd be OK with Talbot, Glass and Allen for 16th and Fraser If Sather has any brain power left, he'll use Talbot to dump Glass. Just getting the 16th pick back will not make the team better this year. I have said that Sather's trades need to be for now and the future. Just not for the now. I still see a better fit with Dallas. Buffalo is interesting. It depends how desperate they are for a goalie. I could see Foligno with Buffalo and the Kings second round picks. I don't buy he's bringing back a 2nd round pick only. No way. There is way too much interest. It's a bidding war now. What usually happens is a team says F it, swoops in at the last moment with overpayment, says the deal is on the table as long as your on the phone and it happens.
Don't see any point in Getting Marincin. The left side full for years with McDonagh, Staal and Skjei when Yandle leaves or is dealt.
Sather needs to be on alert because if a team is dumb enough to give up a first rd pick (let alone the 16th) for a 28yo (his bday is Jul 5) with only 50gms started in the NHL he needs to jump all over it before the other GM sobers up.
