Kobe Bryant has never won a major award. He's probably one of the best players ever not to. But he has been a major candidate for every single award.MVP in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006DPOY in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 20046th Man of the year in 1998Most Improved Player in 1998Rookie of the Year in 1997I just realized that and thought it was kind of interesting.

I couldn't believe he didn't win MVP last year...I felt like murderig people with long hair because they resembled Steve Nash for a week, he was the person to deserve it the least.

Yeah, his play has been overhsadowed by Shaq, and without Shaq he was too young, or like last years or year before, his team didnt do enough for him to win it. He shouldve won it last year though.

Kobe Bryant has just been unfortunate in most years, playing at a top level for a long time, but each year there is that one thing that hurts him. His rookie year, unfortunately Allen Iverson was easily the best rookie in the league, and had a better rookie season than Kobe Bryant did. When he was up for 6th man of the year, Danny Manning had a very good year, and even though Kobe Bryant I felt was robbed of it Danny Manning had a legit case for 6th man of the year with Phoenix. In 2000, Shaq was easily more valuable to not only the league, but the Lakers than Kobe was. Shaq averaged 29.7 points, and 13.6 rebounds per game.In 2001, it's the same thing, Iverson was more valuable to the 76ers than Kobe was to the Lakers considering, once again he was not their most valuable player, Shaq was this year. Those MVP's each year, 2002 Kidd and Duncan had outstanding seasons. Kidd got robbed, but he didn't deserve the award over either one of those two because they were arguably more valuable to their teams than Kobe was to his. He did have Shaq out there which it's argued was more valuable to the Lakers than Kobe.In 2003 it was much the same thing, Duncan was arguably more valuable to his team than Kobe was to the Lakers. In 2004 the T'Wolves took off, and like the previous years Garnett was more valuable to his team's success than Kobe was to the Lakers success considering he had Shaq, and Malone on his team. The past season, Lebron should have won that award, as Lebron and Kobe both got robbed. I felt both were more important to their teams than Nash was, but that's a different storyAs for Mike Miller, he has lucked up and been a 6th man on years that not many sixth men were that good. Same with rookie of they year, he had a very good rookie year with the Magic, and there was just not that many rookies producing that year. While I think that Kenyon Martin deserved the award that year, the fact is, those were the only two rookies worth mentioning for that award in the 2000-2001 season.

IMO he should have an MVP award right now....and NOT from 2006! In 2002-2003, he had the best year of his career statistically with 30PPG/7RPG/6APG/2SPG with 45% shooting and 38% shooting from 3. He played all 82, and kept a Laker team that had a lot of injuries and was in dissaray from falling much at all. Kobe was at his defensive best then, was at his most clutch then, and had that string of 9 40pt games in a row. 2006 I felt that he should have been 2nd to Lebron James, who had the all around better stats and better record and homecourt in 1st round.

I definitely think Kobe's overdue for a Karl Malone type of MVP award. What I mean by that is he's been so close so many times, and has played at a top tier level for so many years that they have to give it to him one of these seasons, maybe not for his play in that season but for his overall play. That's what happened to Malone in 97. Bruce Bowen is the same deal for DPOY.

I found that quite interesting as well... I think Kobe's in the running for an MVP award though this year... Though I'd like to see Stevie Nash win it for a 3rd time in a row [IMG]

I'm sure Kobe eats his breakfast every morning with 3 rings on his hand and couldn't care less. Regardless, I don't think there's any question barring injury that Kobe will rack up a couple MVPs in his career.

Well, he wouldnt have won MVP in the Shaq years because he was on a team with Shaquille O'Neal, and he wasnt even the best player on his team. The year after Shaq left he didnt play as well as he should have, and the Laker's missed the playoffs. You could argue for last year, but I guess it is next to impossible for someone to win MVP when his team is only a 7th seed.

Without him, that team would not have got even close to what they did the last two seasons. Most of those years that Shaq was on his team, Kobe might be a better all around player than Shaq, but Shaq was completely the most valuable player on that team. His dominance in the paint made that team go round most of the years, with the exception of the 2002-2003 season much like Nitro said, because he was hurt alot. I still believe Duncan deserved that MVP award that year, much more than Duncan did the year before, when I felt Kidd deserved that award, but anyways that was the one year he was the most valuable on that team.
