In case you haven't heard already, Portland and Utah pulled off a trade just before the trading deadline of 2 PM EST today. In exchange for the 3rd overall pick, Portland will get the #6, #27, and a 2006 first rounder of the Jazz(via Detroit).

Obviously before making this deal, Portland had done its homework and had made sure that the most likely scenario is that Atlanta will be taking Marvin Williams with the #2 overall pick or Andrew Bogut if for some reason Milwaukee takes Marvin. They had to make sure of this because they would be kicking themselves if Atlanta decided to take Deron Williams with the #2 pick allowing Marvin Williams to drop right into thier laps at #3.

Now, what if for some reason Deron goes #2 to Atlanta. It is no secret that Marvin's workout with Atlanta was nothing special and how Atlanta has been highly considering taking Deron with the #2.

It is no secret that Utah moved up so that they could get their choice of Chris Paul/Deron Williams however could they really pass on a talent such as Marvin Williams if he fell to them at the #3 slot?

In the unlikely event that Marvin falls to them at the #3, I think they have to take him with that pick. From there they can then ship him off to Charlotte or New Orleans for Paul/Deron and make them throw in an extra pick or person to go along with it. Everyone gets the person they want in this situation.

I think they would take Marvin, make him play SF, move AK up to the 4 again, and try to trade Boozer. If they can't, they would probably make him a 6th man until they could make a trade, and that won't be a problem for Marvin since he was a 6th man in college. He's a patient young kid.
