<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">New Jersey Net Richard Jefferson now knows it's dangerous to perform poorly at the Olympics. Just back from Athens, he joined some friends hanging out at Soho:323 when he was approached by a pretty girl. Our spy reports the woman harangued Jefferson, "You didn't represent our country." Then she tried throwing her glass of wine on him. A friend of Jefferson stepped in to block it, which caused other partygoers to be splashed. The Olympic fan was asked to leave.</div>-from benmaller.com
Funny stuff, also very disrepectful what would you have done if you were RJ.

Hmm... I would have agreed with her. There was no excuse for RJ and the rest of team USA to settle for Bronze. Good going to the girl IMO.

Although the wine was uncalled for. That was stupid.

If this report is true, then the woman who did this should be ashamed of herself.

What's the purpose of her protest? That she can act like a moron?

Telling him she thought he didn't represent is her right. Throwing wine at the guy is completely un-called for and quite frankly, smacks of the lowest of assinine intentions.

Not to mention, is she also travelling around the country to try to throw wine on the other members of Team USA? Richard Jefferson, like everyone else, isn't solely to blame for the teams failure.

If true, this was just pure stupidity on the womans part.

If I were RJ I would have slapped that ***** up side her head. Honestly he brought home some medal didn't he? If we are reacting thgis way because we won bronze and not gold China must be trying to assasinate Yao ming because they did not bring home any medal. Man american standards are way to high these days. If that girl thinks she could have done better tell her to get her ass over seas and play.

What dumb chick...sports is sports, yeh somtimes teams do not perform as you expect, but there is no reason assault a player. It is not like Team USA took the woman's money, or messed with her. People like her should be sent to school and taught some proper ethics. Oh, and if she thinks that she could have done a better job representing, then she should join the next Olympic team [IMG].

That would have been a huge mistake on your part. Stuff like this is the stuff that lawsuits are made of. She would have slapped him with assault charges and his good name would have been tarnished and his bank account would have definetely taken a significant hit.

When people do stuff like this, they generally are expecting undue retaliation. It suits their purposes.

RJ did exactly what he should have done: Walk Away.

Untrue, but in a sport of basketball nothing but the best should be demanded. Basketball got started in the US and is one of the top three most played sports. The US popularizes the sport more than any other country and if we pride in this sport, we better be the best.

Look at soccer, it's the most popular sport in the world, but not so much so in the US. If we didn't win the World Cup or even place in the top 5, would anyone be as angry as we are with the current Mens BBall team? No. Soccer isn't really that popular here and we don't glorify it as much as we do for bball and football . If ther was an international competition for football and lose, can you imagine the rioting that would incur? Does the same happen for soccer? Definitely not.

With all due respect, what does that have to do with this incident? [IMG]

I'm not a Nets fan, so I'm wondering how it is that people are using this incident to take pot shots at Richard Jefferson's character.

He's not the one in the wrong here.

I dont really see what is funny, whether or not RJ belonged on the team has nothing to do with this classless action by this lady. Even if she didnt respect his play or effort on the team, she should have respected his space as a person. When she approached him in such a negative manner, she entered his space. And this is often how athletes and superstars get in trouble, they react the wrong way to negative outlash by crazy fans/fanatics. But at least RJ handle it in the right manner. But this goes to show, most situation are not started by the superstars like the media sometimes try to make you believe, its often started by someone who ends up coming out looking like the victim.

Anyway, just because Rj didnt play well doesnt mean he didnt represent the US in the right manner. RJ was one of the players staying after practice trying to improve his play as the olympics went on, Rj was on of the guys standing up on the sidelines cheering the US on every step of the way, even when he would get benched in the 4th quarter for Shawn Marion. Rj was on of the guys, who was willing to face the press & express the teams feeling after losses etc, even when the newspapers where mostly printing negative things about the team. So RJ represented the USA well in my opinion, things just didnt go well for him on court, but the cat still hustled every 2nd he was on the court. And he never let his negative offensive play effect his effort on defense.

RJ represented the good and the bad side of the USA team.

    Good side:

    1. There are players selfless enough to put aside fears of terrorism and joys of vacation for a stint with the USA team.
    2. There are players who doesn't care if he gets bench or majority of the PT as long as he's in there supporting the team, on the court or on the bench.
    3. USA team is showtime with high wire acts.
    4. The USA team are good individual players.

    Bad side:

    1. They can't shoot from the outside.
    2. They're considered rookies of international play.
    3. They can't defend the pick and roll.
    4. They can't break the zone.

So in my mind, RJ did a good job by representing the good side of the USA team and it's kinda acceptable if you look at how he represented the bad side mainly because the whole team right now is like that. You can't change a player or a team in a matter of a few weeks.

RJ didnt deserve that. he risked his safety by volunteering for the olypmics. he couldve died out there but he took the chance anyway. he did represent.. a 100%... well not really a 100% maybe about 95% for not taking home the gold. :P
