Is he the real deal? Over @ shitdog there has been a ton of Fedor comparisons (rather small for a HW, put very strong, quick, relentless) and last night he showed incredible stand up--quick hands, crisp combinations, power shots. Combine that with his relentless work ethic, top notch wrestling, good ground n pound, and amazing pace he fights with...is he the man that could topple Brock? When/if they fight, Brock will have close to 30 lbs on him, will that be a major factor? Frank Mir rocked Brock with a knee, Couture rocked him a couple of times...I don't think either of those two fighters have the stand up that Cain showed last night.
I think he is very good... I think Big Nog is half a step slow, too. We have yet to see if he can do anything from his back. Top five for sure.
Do you think Lesnar can get him down? Carwin get him down? Nog is slower now, but he is still a good fighter. Cain made him look like an amateur last night, though. Another question, if Cain doesn't get a title shot right away, does he just wait for the winner of Brock/Carwin or Mir or does he take a fight while waiting?
I think he'll be pressured to fight in the meantime... as suggested last night, if dos Santos beats Gonzaga, perhaps that matchup will be made.
Cain is for real... Will he beat BROCK? Depends on his game plan..... But NO QUESTION in my MIND... Velasquez is the real DEAL!
Yes he is for real, can he beat Brock? No he's too small and will get put on his back and suffocated from there IMO. can he beat anyone else in the HW division? Probably.
If Brock gets back to the level he was at before the injury I can't see him losing unless he gets caught with a haymaker. His size and strength advantage is overwhelming.
I think Mir could beat him. He was 265 lbs in his last fight and said he wanted to get around 10-20 lbs more than that if I remember correctly. He'll never be as much of a brute as Lesnar but if hes big and strong enough to be able to get out of Lesnar's previous strategy of laying on top of him and punching him in the face over and over its very possible Mir could win. Mir would wreck him on the ground as long as Lesnar couldn't completely control him with his weight. Mir did alright standing with Lesnar in the brief moment in the 2nd round before he got put on the mat again as well. In summary, a lot has to go Mir's way but I think hes the most capable of beating Lesnar now that hes putting on a lot of weight. Carwin is capable of dropping anyone with one shot as well and is near Lesnar's size with a respectable wrestling background. I tend to think Mir would be more likely to beat Lesnar though because Carwin's only notable opponent has been Gabriel Gonzaga (who broke his nose before Carwin KOed him).
What if Lesnar also adds another 10-20 lbs? I agree Mir has a shot at beating Lesnar again, but if he can't stop the take downs he's going to get pounded out again. I would think the best way to beat Lesnar is extending the fight and hoping Lesnar gases and then going in for the kill.
265 is the limit. Currently there isn't enough real talent that fights over 265 to make a super-heavyweight division necessary. just freak shows like hangman-choi and Bob Sapp
Mir has the stand up and ground game to beat Lesnar, he just needs the strength. Adding all this bulk doesn't automatically make him stronger. In the last fight, Lesnar just laid on top of him and pounded his face in. Hopefully Mir's added bulk will lead to added strength, because if it does, he's got a great shout at beating Lesnar, IMO.
Mir looked great at 265. It wasnt by eating dirty either. There is some good muscle added to that bulk. He looked lean at 265. I expect him to give a much better showing if they fight again.
After thinking about it some more I think Cain would pose a lot of problems for Brock. Brock's MMA wrestling is mediocre. His take downs are not superb. I think he would struggle to get Cain down. In a stand up fight, Cain tools Brock. Cain's striking isn't elite for the weight class but he has speed and power. Brock's striking is rudimentary. I think Cain poses a bigger threat to Brock than Shane Carwin or Frank Mir. I'm curious to see how Junior dos Santos fits in as well. And don't forget "All Hard Work" Todd Duffee. That guy is a freak.
Unlikely. Bulk isn't going to help Mir. He'll never be as strong as Brock. In both fights Brock has put him down and mashed him up. I think Frank got lucky the first time (the fight was going to be stopped if Mazz hadn't been such a fuck up of a ref). Didn't the second. Won't a third.
I got high hopes for Todd Duffee being the real deal. Read about him a while ago in fight magazine. Here's hoping he's brought along slowly like they have Carwin, JDS and Cain and don't feed him to the wolves too soon.
I'm with speeds, Mir can bulk all he want, but he won't be nearly as strong as Lesnar. Just because you add bulk doesn't necessarily mean you've gained a lot of strength. I just don't see Mir being able to stop Brock's takedowns or Mir being able to get out from under Brock pounding his face in.
