I have to admit I'm starting to get on the Cam Newton bandwagon. He makes good decisions with passing the football and only breaks containment when a play breaks down. I have confidence in Harbaugh teaching him the position and building the offense to fit his style of play.
He may be the answer, but I don't think he's going to fall far enough for you to get him. I'm thinking that Buffalo will be taking him at #3. But hey, there could always potentially be Blaine Gabbert for you guys to take if he gets taken that early.
I think the Bills are inviting another team to trade with them so they can move down with these Cam Newton to Buffalo rumors.
According to Todd McShay, Newton had a relatively terrible combine. He mentioned him struggling with the interview process and having problems with making a lot of the throws.
I watched the combine, he was terrible with his accuracy. And these were 10-footers. Great athleticism for his size, but the Bills would be stupid to take him with the #3. They have a shot at taking Von Miller, Marcel Dareus, and (I hope he falls to my Browns) Patrick Peterson.
His style is completely different to Vince Young. I'm not sure how much importance combines have in determining a player panning out or not. I'm more interested in how Cam scores on the Wonderlic.
It's not just the combine numbers. Just watch his game, his mental game is ridiculously low. He makes horrible reads, and when he does get it right its too slow, he has a hard time finding the hot route, and his accuracy is horrible. He has all the potential in the world, but he's far from a player I would take in the first round. But in all sincerity, I hope you guys take him so you screw up your pick
I'll have to watch more footage of him I guess. I thought his decision making was solid in the Championship game and would translate in the NFL. He just needs the proper coaching and hopefully has the work ethic to improve his mechanics and accuracy. I wouldn't want him starting as a rookie for the 49ers, I don't think the offensive line is good enough yet to protect the quarterback and Newton isn't ready to start. A season and a half on the bench learning and developing under Harbaugh would be ideal.
It sucks too, cause right now people have him mocked as high as the #1 pick to Carolina, and the Bills (i'm more inclined to think they'll take Peterson or Von Miller). IF the 49ers did go the defense, I think there's a good chance you guys will take Prince Amukamara aka Beast, or Robert Quinn aka Bust.
The 49ers could use Prince Amukamara. They gave up a lot of big plays last season in the secondary on 3rd and long. I'm not sure if that is caused by lack of a pass rush or lousy DB play?
I retract. No longer want Cam Newton on the 49ers. He sounds like a fucken nightmare waiting to happen for the team who drafts him. Self-Entitlement, poor work ethic, delusional ... those were words used to describe him by NFL executives after they met with him.
A lot of word is coming out right now that Patrick Peterson MIGHT fall to you guys. Honestly, I don't see how he gets past the Browns, but holy crap, if the 49ers catch a hail mary on Peterson, you'll have drafted the best cornerback prospect (and the best prospect in this year's draft. period.) since Charles Woodson. He has superstar written all over him. Shape, count your blessings with Cam. I wouldn't even touch that guy with a late first rounder, much less a top 10. There's no answer at QB this year, horrible QB draft class. Wait for next year's. It's a much better draft class overall.
