First of all, I'm not going to get into a huge argument about this because I know there will be a huge backlash from Arenas fans, but I really don't care.I was watching Jim Rome is Burning today, and he was talking about how Arenas has started calling out his 50+ point games against people who were involved in his "Team USA snub" last summer, and Rome kept going on and on praising Arenas for the "hitlist." Now, is Gilbert Arenas getting too cocky?I mean, think about it. I know I've had my problems and dislike with Kobe back in the day, but that has changed. I remember people used to hate Kobe and claim he was cocky, arrogant, selfish, etc. (and some still do now), but now people are praising Arenas for the same exact thing? Please... it's always good to be confident and believe in your abilities, but I think you're going a little too far when you publicly come out and say "I guarantee I'm going to drop 50+ on Portland... they need to put the game on national TV."Gilbert Arenas is an amazing basketball player, but his ego is growing by the day, in my opinion, and it is really starting to get on my nerves how people criticize certain superstars for this kind of behavior, yet praise others. It is absolutely ridiculous...Thoughts?

Nah I consider it diff. from kobe. kobe didn't really have a reason to be cocky. Gilbert's isn't so much cockiness in this case than revenge. He's mad that he was snubbed so he said he'd score 100 on the Suns/Blazers combined. He's an underrated underappreciated great player on a crappy team. kobe had rings and was 'mr. stud'.

When you have 3 rings, you have a reason to be cocky. (Kobe)He called out the Trail-Blazers. He's smart. He picked some horrible team to call his 50 point game out on.If he did it to like a Dallas or Detroit, it would be different.

He's always been pretty cocky in my opinion..never liked him very much. This doesn't surprise me at all, he's just growing cockier by the day. Anyways, yes he's taking it to far. When he does something meaningful in the playoffs other than leading his team to the second round then maybe we can give him a little lee-way.

Yeah I have too say that calling your 50 pt games is getting way too cocky. And he will feel dumb if he doesn't even get close to 50 in the Portland game.

Taking it too far is saying im the next Jordan. But calling out the Suns and actually beating them is just another strand of amazing. To be that confident going into a team on a 15 game winning streak and drop 50, thats where you jaw drops right? You said the Wizards have the upperhand in the SouthEast so that is something meaningful in a sense. Dont count Gilbert out of any race this year, im thinking MVP contender anyone?

Boo hoo he didn't make team USA, suck it up. Big deal the Wizards are first in the East. They'd be second if Shaq, Wade, etc havnt been hurt most of the season. Lets see how long this lasts anyway. What you do in the playoffs is what's truly meaningful imo.

I've always thought of Arenas as the cocky type since he ever joined Washington and that's why I don't really care for him.

No, I dont think he's cocky. He just knows what he's capable of and likes to express it to the world. He knows that he could drop 50 on Portland, but you wouldn't see him saying that about the Suns. What I would consider cocky is him saying like "The Wizards are the best team in the East and no one can beat us." Thats being cocky. A simple little statement like that? Not so much.

yeah people's inconsistancy is pissing me off. Gil is a good player, but still not top 3 IMO. his D is questionable. and he's yet to make a big impact on the playoffs. I think someone needs to take him down a peg or 2.

They all say their team is the best in whatever and they are the team to beat. That's understandable, because that's having confidence and faith in your teammates and your team's abilities, but calling out what team's you are going to personally score 50 on is cocky, considering he's basically saying his personal mission is bigger than the team goal of winning.

Yeah but they don't say that they are the best on television. And I dont pay much attention to the Wizards so I didnt know he said that. I still dont think he's cocky though.

The funniest thing is that arenas is averaging 29.7 points on 43% shooting. And he talks trash as if he is the best scorer in the league. Wade averages 1 less point on way better perecntages. Kobe averages 1 less point on way better percentages. The only thing he does good is score and even that aint impressive. Tim legler of espn said we haven't seen this scoring output since jordan. Kobe just averaged 35ppg last year and in two other months averages 40 ppg. Arenas isn't doing anything incredible. The team record isn't amazing, they'e only a good seed because they're in the pathetic east.Imo, Arenas is what he is . A streaky gunner.

Arenas is a good player. He is NOT a "great" player by any means. He's been having a hot season, he's "the man" right now, and nobody can deny that. But every year there's a new guy to step up and have a breakout year. Arenas and his Wizards won't make it beyond the 2nd round in this year's Playoffs.

Gilbert is not cockyHe is seriously underrated and unreconizined for all he does. Really, he's been snubbed so much, been told he wasn't good enough, and now he's proving everyone wrong and they're ignoring him. I mean what would you do in his posistion?Gilbert just needs some respect.

It was sort of style of basketball. They picked Battier and Bowen over Arenas for a reason. They didn't need scorers. They needed defense and chemistry. Who is they anyway? Nobody is ignoring Arenas. If I were in his position, I know I wouldn't predict 50 point games. I'd just go about my business. He gets his respect.
