Realistically Nique is the greatest Dunker of the post Dr Jay era, nobody mixed the power & grace of Dunking better then Nique. And MJ is the most important Dunker post Doc, he made flight into art. So realistically it would be extremely hard for me to vote Vince greatest Dunker of all-time. I think people view Vince as the greatest of all time cause he is the most recent. And MJ & Nique were all around spectucalar scorers not just Dunkers. So their overall scoring ablity out wieght their dunks

MJ had the best dunk on Deke given the situation in the 97 playoffs when Dekembe told him he never would dunk on him that very same year during the 97 all-star game. Hard to match cause MJ caught one on Mark Eaton(7'0 #3 all-time in shock blocks) when he was on the Jazz that was sick. And MJ caught a crazy dunk on Tree Rollins to in a game against the Hawks. Pat cuaght a mean MJ facial in the 92' playoffs. So MJ can match facials with anybody. And style well, MJ was the king of that....unmatched.
I think that had Vince didn't get injured, he would have gone down as the greatest dunker of all time. If I were to say the player with "best three years" of dunking, I would say VC. Otherwise due to Dominique's full career of dunking, and he was fearless and would dunk with a defender on him all the time.
Vince's dunks created the best posters in my opinion. The angles he was at and how he finished his dunks were incredible. I think MJ had a lot more air than VC, but he didn't do as much as Carter did. I've only seen a few of Nique's dunks, so I'm not sure about that.

He was more of a power dunker from what i've seen, and his repretoire of dunks was not very impressive either. Could you picture MJ doing a through the legs dunk off a bounce pass, or a 360 Windmill? I'd like to believe so, but I just cannot see him doing that. Anyways, those are just my opinions, I can't change yours, but those are just my thoughts on Vince, Mique and MJ. This is really hard. Carter has done some unbelieveable stuff. The classic over the 7 footer was pretty impressive. I also saw Carter jump from about the freethrow line with 2 hands in the dunk contest. Jordan did some real nasty stuff too. But, I think Carter is a hair better than Jordan. I think better than Dominique too but, I can't really say because I was not born around that time.

They usually weigh in the fact that Nique and Jordan were better players than Carter when determining who the best dunker of all time is. But it shouldn't be like that, it should just be judged on dunks alone. As a Raptor fan, you may think that I'm being biased for thinking VC's the best dunker of all time, but I recently watched what was considered by most "the best slam dunk contest of all time" (Jordan vs. Nique), and now I'm further convinced that Carter is still the best. Everything Jordan and Nique did in that match-up could be equalled and surpassed by Carter without a doubt. Don't get me wrong though, Jordan and Nique are both great dunkers, but it's hard for me to imagine either one of them doing some the dunks that Carter has done in the past, especially in his slam dunk contest (the reverse 360 windmill dunk). And for him to completely dominate a slam dunk contest that included T-Mac and Steve Francis, that says a lot.
I think that you are all forgetting some one: Jason Richardson. Off the backboard, backwards through the legs.....Who the heck can do that! I do not like Richardson becuase he is on a loosing team, but I think he should be considered as the greatest dunker of all time. I cant believe that he was not on that poll; did not he win two dunk competitions?
i think that vince deserves to be the best current dunker. but jason richardson is a little underated at #5.

Nique combined everything..grace,power and creativeness and used it in games every night. A Nique dunk could change the game. Seeing Nique catch a pass on the wing,tear thru the air and throw it down on anyone and everyone was an amazing thing to see. It was so demoralizing to some of those cats that it changed the course of the game. Nique doesn't get enough love in the current age. Don't get me wrong,I got love for Vince since he's a Heel but he isn't on the level Nique performed at.

Anyways, I don't think it's fair to use the evolution of dunks as a reason (or excuse) why previous greats should still be named the best dunker of all time. To me it's like those movie buffs who will always consider Citizen Kane the greatest movie of all time and shun the new movies stating that they benefit too much from the use modern age technology. That just isn't fair to the current movie producers just how it isn't fair to use that reasoning for current nba dunkers who could be considered the greatest. Trust me, I was in the same boat as you thinking that no one could be as great a dunker as Nique or Jordan. And when I read that Slam magazine named Carter the greatest dunker of all time, all I thought was that they gotta be out of their mind. But after downloading their highlight dunks both from dunks contests and in games, and comparing them to VC's.... all I thought was "holy crap they're right". Carter and Nique are very similar in their style of dunking. Both combined grace, creativity and power.... but Carter had something about him that put him above Nique's level. It could be that he had better elevation or that he was more agile. But I guess this is all arbitrary.... it's hard judging who's the better dunker when both are from different eras.
LMAO How old are you guys? Were you guys around when Nique and MJ were posterizing people? You have to remember..the flamboyance and style of dunking wasnt present back in the day. This was an era where "statue of liberty" dunks and Tomahawks from the free throw line were the ish. Now think about how the art of dunking has evolved from that. Carter and all these young guys just took some of the best dunks from back then and put their own spin on it. Not taking away anything from their skills or creativity..but who would love to see Vince in his prime go up against MJ and Nique in their prime at a dunk contest circa 2004? Now who would win??
There is no doubt in my mind that Vince is one of the best dunkers to ever live. sorry, the best. Sure, MJ and Nique are up there(Kobe?!), but VInce is no doubt the best so far. Vince had crazy ups and proably still has decent ups right now. Vince has the hops, the finesses, the look(to his dunks), everything. And he has dunks (don't say he doesn't, because you know he does) that we haven't seen. as for in game, MJ is the best, but Vince can...sorry, could put down some nasty stuff. I have to agree with dunksworth on the whole, "evolution" of the game, but like any other argument(Is Chamberlain the best to ever live? who is the best of all time, etc,.) you have to take the evolution into consideration, but do not give the player a crutch because of htat, the evolution of hte game also means huge portions of hte game has changed too.
