Maybe just maybe Mr.Roy could give back some of this huge freaking contract knowing in his heart he's not the franchise player he was paid to be anymore; and truly be a LEADER and help this team "HIS TEAM" win!?! I know in an era of greed this might be French in a Korean room but it can be done! We have all been duped on this Bradon deal but ownership and Brandon can both come out looking much better to season ticket holders and all the fans, with a bit of dare I say at this time of year "GOOD WILL!" Asking the Trailblazers fans to stomach Greg yet again and a management that looks completely clueless on all forms of bball IQ seems almost to much. Than to throw in Brandon for the final piece of this triangle of dysfunction could finally snap this city and it's love for their team! I think the whole Blazer organization needs to look at these events seriously because five more years of below average hoops and an economy like ours could turn the Rose Garden into Memphis Stadium in a hurry! Portland fans are loyal, not to be confused with stupid!! They were sold a sports car with severe engine flaws and the manufacturer knew about it all along! Sure we might have to eat the sticker but we'll never buy from that company again! To have this kind of team talent as a whole fall apart this fast seems unthinkable. More insulting is that the organization knew most of this prior to this season and allowed this product to be marketed and sold for top dollar! Once again a little GOOD WILL could go a long way here!
Money talks and bullshit walks. There's no way any person will give back tens of millions of dollars over a moral decision. The only thing we could hope for is a medical retirement. That's the only way.
Brandon Roy will not give any money back... especially if he's able to keep taking the court. And the Blazers will be fine. The championship window we all foresaw might never open, but Roy's bad contract won't be a reason that the team will be incapable of fielding a good team. Ed O.
It's against the current CBA to renegotiate an existing contract to a lower salary. Even if Roy wants to give back money, his contract doesn't allow it, so this entire thread is not based in reality. Perhaps it could be revisited under a new CBA, if a lowering of existing contract provision exists in it.
All I'm saying is.... He can't play what he's paid to do on the level we or he expects to be on! His contract is a killer and along with Greg has made many fans feel duped! It's a character thing for me, I don't think BRoy or the organization as a whole let on just how bad his knees are, to secure season ticket holders money and fan support. I feel firing KP, Greg out again, BRoy half the player he was and a sour economy will come back to bite Paul Allan and the Vulcans in the ass! Fans in the large masses away from boards like these will not pay to see their team punished by guys like Zach Randolph and crew....
Roy was severely underpaid for the work he has done up to now, relative to what others in the league were making.
Athletes go after guaranteed contracts/money because their careers could end at any moment. Both the player and team go into the transaction with that understanding. I'm sorry that this is new and shocking to you, but Roy doesn't owe returning a cent.
Well say that tonight while watching Dallas play! BRoy makes a 100k+ a game.... that's a ton of money for basically a jump shooting sixth man!
I don't even that he would be allowed to under the current CBA. Roy did nothing wrong, IMO. Cho has already said they knew he had knee issues before the contract, so If my company wanted to give me 13 million dollars a year to give birth to a child, knowing full well I couldn't already, that's not my problem
Minstrel, I get it....... "GREED FOR A LACK OF A BETTER WORD IS GOOD!" Unfortunately Portland just became Bluestar air!
Oberto insisted he not be paid the remainder of his contract this year, even though it was guaranteed. It obviously was not the same amount of dollars as a max deal, but still a very commendable act IMO.
Guess it could also be said that Rasheed did that by walking away from the last year of his deal with Boston.
No, keeping money that was given to you in a perfectly ethical transaction is fine. I don't think that's a quote from a movie, but far more apropos.
Not if you represented yourself as a capable franchise type of player knowing you needed rest and ice every other game. He took franchise money, not sixth man. VERY DIFFERENT EXPECTATIONS!!! It's not like his body gave out after multiple years. Year 1 of his contract! Come on!
He represented himself as what he was at the time. Injuries change careers. I'm sure this is the first time it's happened in sports history, though, so your anger and shock is very reasonable.
Yeah, I suppose Roy could retire and immediately end his contract. How long before the howlers start howling for him to walk away from the NBA?
