How about Paul Gasol? Both got max contract extensions. Is Jrich next? Probably not. But I have to ask this question. If Gasol and Kirlenko are worth max contracts and Jefferson is worth $76m, how much is Jrich worth? I think the player is worth more to the current team than to other teams around the league.
I would say Gasol is, even though Hubie Brown won't use him enough for him to have the numbers to back it up. I wouldn't give Kirilenko the max myself, but I'd give him near max, like 72 mil. I think a fair contract for Richardson is about 6 years and 50 mil. Just so you have an idea, a 6 year deal starting at 7 mil with 12.5% annual increases would have a total value of about 48.5 mil.
they are all worth their contracts i think Grant and Houston are overpaid and so is Foyle most definately
I would say Kirilenko is worth it. That guy is a freak. Richardson really believes he's better than he is. His agent Fegan plays on team's weaknesses promising them that their getting the missing piece to success but in reality that's not true. There's no way that guy gets any respect, he's a hustler. I understand the name of the game but he is out of line. Gilbert Arenas is very good but 63 million? Dampier got an outrageous contract at 70 something and now Richardson wants 70 something. Richardson on the open market would not get more than 60 right now and that's if he's really lucky. I read some quotes of Richardson saying that he should get a max contract because he went to the slam dunk contest and had to bring the ball up the floor at the end of last year so the organization should be loyal to him. Its on hoopshype.com somewhere. What a joke, it's called doing your job kid. Thank god Mullin didn't sign this guy to an outrageous extension. Even though I like JRich, if we don't make the playoffs I don't see why we should sign him because if he couldn't do it this year then what's the point of giving him $$$ when we still have a ways to go? If JRich breaks out then I say pay em but until then that kid needs to STFU and as custodianrules would say "put the ball in the darn hoop".
AK-47 is definanlty worth maximum contract! He is one of the few players in the game (Examples are: JKidd, Ben Wallace)...who can influence a game without scoring a point. His defence is remarkable, I feel he was more deserving the Ron Artest for the Defensive player of the year. His age is another plus, he will be a great player for years to come
I guess I should have prefaced my comment by saying that I only think there are 10-15 guys definately worthy of the max. Here's a quick list of who I think is CURRENTLY worth the max: Definately worth it 1. Garnett 2. Duncan 3. Kobe 4. Dirk 5. McGrady 6. Shaq 7. Yao 8. Jermaine O'neal 9. Peja 10. Pierce 11. LeBron Probably worth it 1. Brand 2. Iverson 3. Allen 4. Webber 5. Gasol 6. Ben Wallace 7. Baron 8. Kirilenko Don't get me wrong, I love Kirilenko's game. He's a great defender, he hustles, and he plays within Sloan's offense, and he does it all without any ego. But let's not go nuts. He averaged 16.5/8/3 with 2 steals and 3 blocks a game. Those are great stats, but with a salary cap of 43 mil, I wouldn't feel comfortable handing over that kind of money to Kirilenko. Especially considering that the Jazz already gave big contracts to Okur and Boozer, and they still don't have a legit go to scorer. By the way, now that I've thought about it a bit more, I don't even know if Gasol is worth it. Of course these are just my opinions and not a good reflection of what happens in the league. In my world there's also an age limit on the draft and coaches have ultimate authority over player decsisons.

Heh thanks upsidedown. Nothing gets me irked more than athletes asking for more money than they'll ever spend. Remember how Zach Randolph was claiming he was worth the max and I think some other teams who don't really have star players anymore have promising players asking for that big money as well. A kind of ransom that if they don't get signed for that money they'll go to some better team for less. One person said that it's better to go from mediocre to great, but how can one team expect to be mediocre when its best mediocre player is reportedly asking for 12 mil a year? Yeah, I'm talking about our team! I would rather pay Kirlenko that money for all that defense, ship Richardson out in a trade for some aging star shooting guard like Ray Allen or Michael Finley and have Dunleavy play point guard (it's the only position he's guaranteed not to miss a shot because he's got more lbs and inches on a smaller point guard).
Upsidedown7, that's it bingo. Kirilenko should get the max because there are not that many dudes around playing D like he does and then scoring 20 on the other end. He did a little whining which was disappointing but I'll give him a pass because its not consistent with what he's done since he came in the league. JRich needs to take a few lessons from Kirilenko in how to make the team better. I can only hope that more Warrior fans start understanding that its not about how many pts a guy scores but what he does to make the team better.
As of now, AK47 isn't deserving of a max contract. Something close to it, but not max. The reason Kevin O'Connor (Jazz GM) gave it to him was because of the fear of losing AK47 to free agency at the end of next season. Kirilenko wanted the money now because of a possible change in CBA rules. In a few seasons, Kirilenko will be worthy of a max contract, he is only 23 as of now and is already an All-Star. He has a great future.
With that in mind, Chris Mullin not signing Murphy and Jrich is VEEERRRRY risky. We are probably going to lose them after this season if not trade them by the dead line. I hope you know what you are doing Chris...
If the new CBA makes it so all current contracts are ridiculously huge in comparrison then it benefits us not do it this year. You know what Mullin is probably doing? He's probably going to get rid of all our scorers so that Dunleavy can be the #1 option. The horror...

So would you pull the trigger? We have their draft rights and right to match any offer, which we can use against any team. But if we undervalue the market, we could lose both Murphy and Richardson. The FA market is so weak next season they could very well get good offers. Right now I worry about guys like Pietrus and Biedrens being one of the best in their position and we can't sign him because of all the other moves Mullin made with getting Najera, Foyle and Fisher.
