Got into a debate with a coworker who has a man crush on LaBron. He thinks James is the greatest player of all time. To me, James is a top 15, but he doesn't make my top 10 list. Beyond stats, I also take into account leadership, making players around you better and other such intangibles.

Is James on your top 10 list? Or just close?

I don't think so at all, nor do I think at this point it is close.

Well if you're not going to list your criteria, how could we judge? But in terms of pure talent, athleticism and skills, he's top 5, no question. He's like Scottie Pippen crossed with Karl Malone. (Disclaimer: I speak of LeBron James - I dunno about his sister LaBron.)

I think James definitely makes others around him better and he's a phenomenal talent and specimen beyond that, but until and unless he wins titles it makes it tough to put him in the pantheon of Jordan, Russell, Bird, Magic, etc.

Top 10 without a doubt IMO. He does everything and is great at pretty much every aspect of the game.

not yet, no. he can't be above MJ, Bird, Magic, Kareem, Wilt, Russell, Kobe, Duncan, Shaq or Oscar Robinson without winning a ring first, at least.

I personally dont think you have to win a championship to be considered on of the greatest of all time. There are too many factors beyond their control that must take place for a team to win a championship. I think Lebron should be on your list over Kareem. I think H.Olajuwon was better than Kareem.

There are so many amazing players in the history of the game. It's all subjective, but at this point I don't think Bron is anywhere near the top 10. If I was putting together a team of the best players of all time, he wouldn't be on it.

    Totally forgot about Olajuwon.

But forgetting about championships, I think he needs to show some more greatness (which usually results in rings.) So far we've seen some pretty outstanding play combined with some well timed choking.

I think that may be one of the more ridiculous things I've read in a long time.

His name is LeBron so I'd say he's not even in your top 15 if you can't even spell his name right.

    Mine would be:

    Oscar Robertson
    Michael Jordan
    Wilt
    Elgin Baylor
    Larry Bird

    My team would win! :devilwink:
I'd be hilarious watching Larry Bird try to guard Lebron and Larry would have a hard time scoring against him IMO.
Jordan vs Jordan would be amazing.
Wilt's lack of experience playing against an all around big like Olajuwon would be exposed.
Baylor vs Malone... Magic vs Robertson... pretty much even each other out.

There's about 50 "top ten of all time" players, if you tally up everyone's lists. Plenty of room for LeBron to get in on that group.

    Does a cow shit?

Of course LeBron is a top 10 all-time player. Best small forward of all time.

Defends 1-5, playmaker, can score, athletic monster.

I'd say he's 3/4 of the way there.
