I think Derrick Rose should be expected to lead a guy who is supposed to be a "black hole" in assists. So score based on stats: 13-1-1 Beasley. Point Beasley, 1-0 in favor of Beasley. 2. Watching them play. Beasley will enter the NBA with perhaps the best repertoire of offensive moves in the NBA. He has all the moves you could ask for from a back to the basket player, and plenty of good face up moves. He is a great dribbler, will be the best big man dribbler in the NBA from day 1. Breaks out of any double teams, and recognizes him. Great body control. The two knocks on Beasley are his passing and defense. As doug pointed out, the only things Beasley has troubles with is team play stuff. As Doug pointed out in the Bullsbeat, this is likely because he was constantly shifting high schools, and had a rookie head coach in college. His passing suffered as a result of crappy teammates besides Bill Walker, which led Beasley to dribble around the double teams, and still get in great positions to score. Doug said that everything Beasley has been able to work on by himself, he is amazing at, and that with a coach, with a system in place that he can be in for a few years, Beasley should become great at those things because he has the work ethic (confirmed by Jonathon Givony), and physical talents to become great at defense, and his recognition of double teams should allow him to become a great big man passer. Derrick Rose has terrific handles and athleticism. He doesn't appear to have the best court vision. Isn't really a creator in the Chris Paul or Steve Nash sense. Got by by dominating smaller guards who aren't legit NBA size in the NCAA tournament (Chalmers is the exception). Poor jumpshot. Beasley has the better skills set, and has less to develop. Rose has to develop his playmaking abilities and create a jumpshot out of nothing. Again, point Beasley. 2-0 Beasley. 3. Character Michael Beasley wrote on drinking fountains with a sharpies, and yelled "I'm naked" in high school. By all accounts, he has matured since being in college. His academic advisor said he was doing very well. No complaints out of KSU at all about Beasley. Strong mom that will discipline him behind him. Beasley is a total gym rat. As Doug said in the Bullsbeat, Beasley didn't get the way he is by luck. He spent the hard hours in the gym to get the body he has now, and to develop the great skillset he has. Derrick Rose helped a football player, Steven Black's girlfriend, commit adultery. Led to a fight in which Derrick Rose got his ass whooped by Black. Rose put himself in a bad situation by making poor decisions. Rose's lack of a jumpshot indicates he probably doesn't spend enough time in the gym practicing his jumpshot. You haven't heard squat about Beasley out partying, and with girls. You heard those things about Oden, Rose, and Durant. Beasley seems to be more focused towards basketball, and has a better work ethic. Again, point Beasley. 3-0 Beasley. 4. Fit We already have a point guard in Kirk Hinrich. there is a good chance that Hinrich will be a better player than Rose for the next two years. Thomas seems to be a bust. We have all been clamoring for a superstar, first option, so we could make Gordon a 2nd option and Deng a 3rd option, where they will flourish. Well now we have this guy knocking on our door and people don't want him? Come on. This guy would make Gordon so much better, for the first time since his rookie year, the attention will be off of him. With Rose, there is the situation where we take Rose, trade Hinrich for minor players, and hardly improve at all...that situation doesn't seem likely with Beasley. 4-0 Beasley 5. Miami If we take Beasley, we royally screw over Miami. Rose/Wade will probably be an incompatible duo. Both players will need the ball in their hands to be successful, and neither has a very good jumpshot. Wade/Beasley would be a deadly duo that complement each other perfectly. We would have to go through that every single year, and they'd probably knock us out every year. Rose/Wade doesn't scare me like Wade/Beasley does. 5-0 Beasley. Really, Beasley is the no brainer pick. Hopefully the light bulb has gone off in Paxson's head that Beasley is the no brainer pick already.

Rose reminds me a lot of Stevie Franchise. I think Hinrich will probably bounce back next year, and Rose wil struggle a bit to get his footing in the NBA. I would not be too enthused about next year if we have Derrick Rose on this team. He just isn't the same level prospect as Michael Beasley.

Rose only had 4.7 APG. Obviously this isn't the end all be all, but that should for obviously reasons make you take pause, and really look at Rose's playmaking skills, and ask why his assists were that low.
Also, before the lottery, I said Rose/Beasley/Mayo don't do anything (in regards to us getting a top 2 pick), and that Stephen Curry was the only guy I really liked. Then MN4L said, "Doesn't Beasley in the post excite you?", then I thought about it some more, did a more in depth of scouting of Beasley after the lottery, and am damn sure excited about the prospect of Beasley in the post. I'm not down on Rose because I want Beasley. I just never thought Rose was all that great to begin with.

Since I've been out of it for a good week and a half due to moving and my computer(s!) flaming out, let me be brief: This is the biggest bunch of nonsense I've read in quite a while. We've had an outrageous stroke of fortune in getting the top pick, and spending it on a guy who gives every sign of being another Drew Gooden or Joe Smith strikes me as downright nuts.
