Seeing as Mr Roeder has been in charge just over 12 months now, I think its a good to look at how long we can consider him being in charge. Personally I think that Roeder has done a decent job in the wake of the Souness era. The squad he inherited hasn't changed much due the wasted spending of GS. After a shaky start to the season we again look like we could make a last minute push for a UEFA place. The limited forays into the transfer market look like good signings - Martins - 14 goals potential 20 goals, Sibierski - no one can argue that he hasn't played a major role in our UEFA run. Duff - although plighted by injuries his purchase for ?5m was a bargain, he's shown at Blackburn and Chelsea what a class act he can be. I can admire Roeders prudence with the limited transfer funds but at the same time question as to who is being prudent GR or our beloved chairman. This leads me to my main issue with GR, is he just a Shepherd 'yes' man? I've always felt that appointing Roeder was the easy option for FS, and who else would have even considered giving GR another top flight managers job? Roeder always plays the safe bet when he comments on anything, the complete opposite to our previous managers, including Sir Bobby and KK. I think that FS now has a manager who he has some control over. In short I don't think that will be able to progress above our possible UEFA spot in the league while GR is in charge. He's a good manager and has done a decent job, but i argue that we won't go any further than a decent job with him in charge.
I think your lack of success under Roeder is mostly down to your unveleivable injury list. It's a constant uphill battle for you lot to get your entire squad fit and keep it that way. You always have to consider one or two injuries in a season, they happen, but at Newcastle it's as though you're jinxed permanently.
