I was thinking about Oakland and Florida today. Is a taste of honey worse than none at all? A team like the A's knows they don't have the money of other teams and it will be a struggle to compete with them, so they can come up with a different strategy. Every few years, the Marlins owner will allow them to spend lots of money in an attempt to compete for a championship, and they often get it, but then they pull the plug and force the team to let all of their high priced players go, and they promptly fall in the standings. Is it better for the GM to know what they have to work with and stick with the same strategy year after year or to get the glory of a championship run? Do fans prefer huge highs and huge lows or a constant decent high?
I'm a Pirates fan, so I don't remember what winning baseball is like. 16 straight years of sub .500 baseball
