Xie Wei, 25, was at work when a drilling machine sliced off his right hand. He thought he’d lost it forever. But he got lucky. After seven hours of searching, with his severed hand on ice with no blood supply, Xie found a hospital with the skills to save it, CNN reports. Dr. Tang Juyu, the specialist located to help Xie, told him the best way to save the hand was to graft it to his ankle until the arm could heal enough to re-attach the hand.
