It truly is amazing what three league wins, and a win in the FA Cup can do to a club to turn their season around. This time a month ago, Spurs were in 12th place, 10 points off the bottom 3, but only 3 points above Sheffield United, who themselves were in a relegation battle. Now, they find themselves 8th in the Premiership, one point behind Europe, and 10 behind a place in the Champions League. So what has happend? Not many expected Spurs to win the game at Fulham, most thought if they were to get it to a replay they would have done well. But that performance was truly sensational, and to win 4-0 left me speechless, especially as I was there enjoying that moment and it sparked a bit of optimism thinking that this should make us push on for the rest of the season. And so that was the case. Three Premiership wins on the bounce, including back to back away wins have put us in a respectable position in the league, and the early season optimism is there as we look to make a late dash for a spot in the UEFA Cup for next season via the Premiership. So whats changed in the last month at the lane? The return of Jenas has been a major boost for Spurs, and he and Tainio have formed a good partnership in midfield. Lennon has returned to form, whilst Keane and Defoe are firing at last, even with their constant rotation as one plays with the ever class Berbatov. The UEFA Cup and the FA Cup now prove a perhaps unwelcome distraction from the league. But the optimism is there again. Can we win a trophy and find ourselves finishing strongly in the league? And what do we do different next season?
4 Wins means 12 Points another 4 Wins and results going your way then you could be on for a Champions League spot.
