"The Sixers have 12 games left in their season after Saturday night in Portland-- and eight are at home. Not only does that give them a great opportunity to hold onto sixth place (they led the Knicks by one-half game before their game Saturday), but it also gives them a chance to move into fifth place. They trailed the Atlanta Hawks by three games heading into Saturday's game. They'll play the Hawks at home Wednesday. The benefits of finishing fifth aren't tremendous. The Sixers would still have to play one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference in the Orlando Magic, which isn't a bigfrom the Miami Heat, whom the Sixers would have to play if they finish sixth."
