I've got a Kenmore Casement Window 6,000 BTU Air Conditioner that installed absolutely beautifully in to the window of my apartment. Some foam pipe insulation on the window and frame all the way around works beautifully at keeping things insulated, along with painters tape for the smallest of cracks here and there. I had a friend help me install it (2 years in a row now), and he does an amazing job each time (management requires me to remove it every Fall). I pay him $40, and he has it installed in 15 minutes or so. Well worth the money. I honestly thought I would need about 10,000 BTUs for my A/C, but this Kenmore keeps this apartment like an icebox. I keep it on energy saver, with the fan on auto, so that it can shut off automatically, and adjust the fan speed automatically according to the temperature. My parents have a 3 year-old Heat Pump (Trane?), and it keeps their 2,800 sq/ft house pretty pleasant. But they get the sun on the west side of their house, which is all windows and a skylight. Up until about 7 years ago, this was blocked by tall hedges and a fence that was blown down during a storm. They never got around to replacing them, and now that side of the house, which includes the dining room and living room, gets absolutely ROASTING, despite whatever air the heat pump is dealing with. And the ceiling in that portion of the house is vaulted, so the hot air rises and just sits up there above the living room, with nowhere to go. They refuse to get a ceiling fan to deal with it. Just today, I made a suggestion to my mother that perhaps a large awning on that side of the house would be beneficial. But they would have to mount it high up on the roof. Anyways.....sorry, got a little carried away. I hope everyone is staying indoors and out of the heat! It's gonna get ugly this week.
Our house faces due West. But our A/C keeps things cool. And we have some of the lowest utilities in the area, so I don't worry about letting it run. That being said, having a decent-sized basement with a big bar, big-screen tv, and lots of sofas has never been better.
Can you imagine how bad this would be if climate change was real?! I'm having to do life support checks on my parents 3x daily this week because all they have a single window unit in their entire apartment. They're both disabled and elderly, and mom broke her wrist last month, so I'm doing all the driving for them... this weather is NOT NICE.
Breaking news. Trump announces the weather in Oregon is Obama's fault. 'Very sad for the people of Oregon. So many good people, Such good people. A state I won, don't believe the polls I won Oregon.'
I'm the only one with the HVAC software in my office building. I haven't gotten any emails with people bitching about their office being too hot yet, so I think I deserve a bonus.
Farewell... It's been an honor knowing you. Got any good stuff or excess cash you want to leave to your friends at S2? barfo
If you have 20$ and a knife you can make an AC. 20$ desk fan. Cut a hole in a styrofoam cooler so the fan can fit in there. Fill with ice. Not spectacular but it's better than nothing. Done right it actually works pretty decently ~
Oregon is not a US state, it is a sanctuary state which has illegally seceded from America and it's laws and Constitutional protections, like the treasonous Confederate states tried. But remove Portland and Trump won by a landslide.
