It's Weight & See for Shaq

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">MIAMI ? The Shaquille O'Neal rapid-reduction program suddenly has become a weighty issue.

Before O'Neal missed a third consecutive game with what the Heat continues to term a stomach virus, coach Stan Van Gundy revealed Sunday that his 7-foot-1 center has "lost 12 to 15 pounds" over the past week.
"He's feeling a lot better, but it's just not prudent to put him out there and subject his body to that type of stress right now," Van Gundy said before his team's 80-72 loss to the Pistons at AmericanAirlines Arena. "He's still pretty weak. He's lost a lot of weight."

O'Neal's last action was an April 2 victory in New Orleans. Van Gundy said he is confident his starting center will be back in the lineup when the Heat next plays, Thursday in Philadelphia.

"I don't think people missing a week of work is that uncommon with some of that stuff that's been going around," Van Gundy said. "He was unable to eat for the first few days, but it's all coming back now. He's starting to eat. He's up and around. His energy level is starting to come back up. We're confident that he'll be fine for later in the week."</div>
