Like most of us may know, Iverson finished 5th in MVP voting race. It's not like he was going to win, but I alike Fred Carter, Rick Kamla, Tim Legler and so on are shocked that he finished at 5th. Iverson received two 1st place votes, which puts him 3rd overall as far as 1st place votes goes, but still, 5th is pretty low if you ask me considering the type of season he had. It's an arguable case on whether Dirk should have been placed above him or not, but Duncan finishing over Iverson is a little too much. Duncan missed too many games to be ranked over Iverson if you ask me. This guy at one time actually had Marc Jackson has his second option and Marc Jackson comes off the bench. And I still didn't forget that stretch in which the team had Josh Davis was occupying the starting PF position. So if you take a look at what he's been through this season and still managed to do what he did I think he should have finished 3rd at least. The predicament he was put in was absurd. Playing with a bunch of young guys and carrying the load night in and night out must have put a hurting on him. And get this, despite the talent he had around him he still managed to average a career high 8 APG. So if you really look at what's he's been through and what he had to overcome, this guy in his own right should have been MVP. And don't forget he became the first player in NBA history to rank top 5 in points, steals, assists and minutes.
I completely agree with you Avery. When I first heard about Iverson finishing 5th in the race, I was shocked and angry. How can I guy, who is coming off the best season of his career, finishing with a 4th scoring title, and like you said one of the top leaders in assists, steals, and minutes and finish 5th. Duncan`s Spurs have been runned mainly by Ginobli unlike previous years and that injury just put him out of too many games. Dirk and Iverson are pretty much tied for the 3rd spot, but I think Dirk gets the edge. 4th should be Answer`s real MVP voting spot.
Well the real crime would be if he got snubbed out of the All NBA First Team. Now that would really be absurd. Speaking of that, does anyone so happens to know when the All NBA Teams will be annoucned?
AI should have finished third at the least. In my mind I think he should have got second, behind Shaq. Iverson averaged 30 ppg and 8, thats twice the amount of ppg Nash averages with only three less assists, not to mention the fact AI is a better defender. What I think the voters were looking at though is team success PHX had the NBA's record, while the Sixers were pretty much a mediocre team. If he isn't on all NBA First team then thats going to be pretty sad.
While statistics play or should play a major role in MVP voting at the end of the day it's really all about the wins, and as far as that goes, Nash dominated Iverson in that category.
Yeah ending up fifth is pretty bogus. At the very least, he should have ended up at fourth over Duncan. I mean, Duncan had a much better supporting cast with Parker and Ginobli while Iverson virtually had no one. Sure the Spurs had a better record, but they had a better team overall. The same argument can be made about Dirk and the Mavericks. Oh yeah plus Iverson dominated the stats and Duncan missed a bunch of games. Bad choice if you ask me.

iverson should've been number 2 in the voting. shaq is the most dominant force in the league, but this award goes to a guy who's team would flop without him. the heat would've been a playoff team without him. the sixers would've won about 20 games without iverson. at the end of last year i was really questioning him, but he's proven once again that his heart and ability are just off the charts
Yeah, Schaddy. Second place in my opinion too. He's improved rapidly, turned up the heat later in the season hustled throughout. Great effort exhibited night in and night out which translated to a damn near MVP-level season for sure. I agree wit you, Avery, in that he deserved higher than Duncan because of games played. 5th place is far too low.
Mvp I thought Iverson deserved better but not second. I am not gonna repeat everything that everyone else has said about him but I am going to prove who deserves it more than him. I had Dirk first, he really raised his defensive game this year and took the worst Dallas team in years to 58 victories. MVP, most valuable player, and what is valuable in the NBA? wins. Without Dirk the Mavs dont win too many more games than the Sixers do without Iverson. So the drop for the Mavs would be more drastic hence Dirk being more valuable. Shaq is also ahead of Iverson.

Meanwhile Philadelphia has like who- Dalembert, Webber (who's pretty old and ineffective alone), Korver (again ineffective without people double teaming Iverson), Iguodala, and Willie Green.
