<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Maybe it was the Yankee cap that made Allen Iverson sound like the ultimate winner in Olympic defeat, the cap that covered his white do-rag and made him sound smarter and more noble than his old friend, Larry Brown, had sounded across three sorry weeks. But there he was in the flesh, Mr. Practice, We're Talking About Practice. That was him, captain of the semifinal loser to Argentina, captain of the first American basketball team with NBA players to fail to win the gold. Iverson was talking about duty and honor and respect some 15 minutes after the United States had lost to Argentina, 89-81, and it was my pleasure to sit there and just listen to him. "If we're not fighting for a gold medal," Iverson said of Saturday's bronze-medal game with Lithuania, "we have to understand that we still have to represent our country....It's still an honor to be able to come over here and represent your country." He was just warming up. Iverson was just digging into his sermon for every multimillionaire NBA no-show to hear, and he would save a lesson or three for the man sitting to his left, Brown, who lowered his chin and studied his clenched hands while the kid taught him all about excuses, and how a responsible coach or athlete should never make them. To the Shaqs and Garnetts and T-Macs and Ray Allens who had better things to do than protect their homegrown game, Iverson said: "They have to understand that, first and foremost, it's an honor to be selected on this team. It's something that you should cherish for the rest of your life, and honestly, it's something I will cherish without winning the gold medal.</div> <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">With that, Allen Iverson fixed his Yankee cap and limped away from the podium. This was one Olympic loser who deserved to wear gold.</div> Full Story This is the complete opposite of what you would expect a columnist to write about Allen Iverson. The whole story is pretty funny and yet ironic. It seems as if Larry Brown and Allen Iverson switched places and Larry Brown is now the one facing the criticism. During, the last couple weeks Larry Brown has been pointing the finger at his players, while in actuality he's just as responsible. So it's just good to see that someone is finally aware that Allen Iverson isn't always the antagonist, and Larry Brown can be as "ignant" as Allen Iverson once was.
Honestly Allen Iverson is the true Olympc winner I have never been more proud of the guy he matured so much over the Olmpics and he has not made any excuses or said any wrong things. He is a winner and he will probvably be made out to be the goat and reason for the teams lose just because he is Allen I, but he did his job he was a big part in helping team USA get a medal at all. I would not blame him for anything because he is one member of a team the definition of a team is a single unit that works together to accomplish a single goal. If you work together to reach a goal as a team if you do not achieve that goal you did got achieve it as a team not as a individual. I think the USA standards are way to high a lot of countries never see a medal we have been lucky to get one every year wer have been in the Olympics since 1988 in mens bball. A medal is a medal weather its gold, silver, or bronze and I am proud of AI and team USA.
really great find avery i enjoyed readins this tory alot. the media can make you think whatever they want you to think about a person. Iverson is Iverson. And i love how he wears his "heart on his sleeve." I think it was really great to see ai in the olympics i cant wait to see how he fairs with the sixers next year.
"A winner at heart" i dont wont to hear stuff like that ,,its all over the world about how major this upset is and as far as im concerned they did not do their job.

They did there best and thats all you can ask for they are playing a extended bball season and doing it volentarily so you can't say shit about them not doing there job because there job is the NBA not the Olympics.
