Well I was thinking a while ago about this and decided to make a thread on it. There are guys around the league specifically Kevin Garnett who are getting considerration for MVP. Kevin Garnett is having an unbelievably good season. Yet his team is struggling. Allen Iverson is having a great season too, and yes his team is slightly struggling he doen't get the slimmest considerration.
    Sixers Record: 18-21
    T-Wolves Record: 21-19
Yes Yes I understand the T-Wolves are playing in the West, but the Sixers still have ahd as tough a schedulke as anyone IMO. That long ass road trip was like the longest ever since like 1992 or something. Also this is a Wovles team that had the Number 1 Seed last year. AI is leading the league in scoring and is top 5 in both assist and steals. The Sixers have had the TOUGHEST schedule in the East. They played the Sonics twice, the Spurs twice, the Suns once, and the Heat once(2nd is tomorrow). Those are now the top teams in the league. I know KEvin Garnett has better stats then AI, but AI is doing a better job IMO of leading his team right now.

So my question to you is If guys like Kevin Garnett get considerration for MVP, then why doesn't Allen Iverson?

In my opinion, Kevin Garnett shouldn't be the MVP for this season as of now. But the real competitors in my mind are Steve Nash or Tim Duncan. I don't want to go into details about those guys too much since this is the Sixers thread, but simply put- Nash and Duncan are leading and keeping their teams together. Its quite evident Phoenix would not be the team they are without him after he had that injury. And Tim Duncan simply is having a great season and his leading his team to a great record.

However, if Kevin Garnett is getting consideration for MVP, to answer your question, Iverson should be too. He's putting up great numbers and is basically throwing his team on his back and leading the charge. There's no other option on his team but him, and he's definitely living up to expectations. I don't know how many times he had more than 50 point games this season but it should mean something. But, I don't think he's going to win MVP obvious. I'm just saying he should be getting recognition and consideration for MVP.

Ya, but when I read a lot of peoples post, people seem to say that KG is a MVP canditate, or that hes the best player in the league or something. IT just made me kinda wonder.

Though I do agree none of them should be considered.

I think the NBA just votes for players who have been playing like Iverson and Garnett, but they have a good winning record, such as Duncan, Shaq, and Nash.

I don't like either player for the top MVP consideration. They are both are average teams that are fighting for a playoff spot. I would take Garnett over Iverson though because he does a lot more, he rebounds more (understandable because Garnett is a forward), blocks, but he is even averaging 6 assists per game from the power forward spot, which is unbelievable. My top 3 MVP's (I feel all of them have a better chance then Iverson and Garnett) are:

    Steve Nash
You can just look at the Suns record with Nash and without Nash and it's not even close. 0-5 without Nash; 32-5 with Nash. Plus the Suns are on top of the Pacific, over the Kings, Lakers, and Clippers. I don't think anybody would have thought the Suns would be at the top of the division.

    Dirk Nowitzki
He is putting the Mavs on his back, I forget the exact percentage but Dirk is around 27% of the Mavs offence, that's insane. He is so versatile, he can shot the three, take it inside, rebound, he can basically do anything on the floor that you want him to do.

    Shaquille O'Neal
Without Shaq the Heat would be a 1 man show (that one man happens to be a MVP candidate also) but without Shaq, Wade would have to put his Heat team on his back and carry them to the playoffs. Shaq in his 13th NBA season is averaging 23 points, 11 boards, and he is always a dominate force down low.
    ----------------

All of these players plus a few others (Ray Allen, Dwyane Wade, Lebron James, and Duncan) have a better chance of winning the MVP then Iverson. Iverson is a great player, and I can't even imagine if we take him away from the 76ers what they would be like, but I feel that Shaq, Dirk, and Nash, who are all on powerhouses have a better chance of winning the MVP then Iverson.

Ya I don't like any of them for MVP consideration either, but I said many people still clasify Garnett as an MVP canditate but not IVerson. Well stats arn't really that useful here. Garnett is a forward and Iverson is a guard. OBviously like you said Garnett has mor e rebounds because he is about a whole foot taller than AI. I don't think the assist r rly unbelieveable. Anyone can pass, size IMO has nothing to do with passing. IT's just when Garnett passes his guy shoots right away and makes it. I think that Shaq is a better passer than Garnett personally, but Garnett has about triplw SAhaqs Assist numbers.

Ya Nash is definely a favorite. ITs between him, Tim Duncan, anD Shaq IMO.

Well Dirk I really think shouldn't get it. His team is like a 5th Seed I believe. IMO he is really in the same spot as Allen IVerson and KEvin Garnett. Great indivdual stats, but not a top seed. He will not get it wither. IF AI and Garnett arnt in canditates either should be even though he is having a career year, Garnett is also having his best year statiscally, and AIs best since 2001.
Here is why Dirk won't win it.
    2004-Kevin Garnett 1st Seed West
2003- Tim Duncan 1st Seed West
2002- Tim Duncan 2nd Seed West
    2001 - Allen Iverson 1st Seed East
    2000- Shaquille O' Neal 1st Seed West
2005- Dirk Nowitzki 4th Seed West?
In the 2000 decade so far no player whose team is less than a second seed in the conference has ever won it. I don't really expect this to be a first.

    Iverson Playing At MVP Level

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">As the mid-point to the NBA season is nearing, there are many players who have surfaced as half-season MVP candidates. The player receiving the most mention, and deservedly so is Phoenix point guard Steve Nash, whose team struggled while he was recently sidelined.

Then there are the usual MVP suspects such as Shaquille O'Neal, Tim Duncan, along with some interesting new names such as LeBron James and Dwyane Wade.

Somewhere out there an old candidate and not so young 29-year-old point guard, is getting very overlooked.

He's 76ers re-invented point guard Allen Iverson, somebody who usually isn't lacking in the publicity department. Yet when NBA mid-season MVP candidates are mentioned, Iverson's name isn't near the top of the list. And maybe that should change.

There is no doubt that a team's success plays a huge role in a player's MVP candidacy. When Iverson won the MVP award during the 2000-01 season, the Sixers went 56-26 and easily won the Atlantic Division. That season Iverson averaged 31 points per game, but he was playing on a veteran team, with the likes of Eric Snow, Aaron McKie, George Lynch and Dikembe Mutombo, a late-season pickup from the Atlanta Hawks.</div>

    Full Story

I pretty much agree with everything that was stated in the article. Makes a lot of sense if you ask me. If he can get the 76ers at LEAST ten games over .500 he should highly be recommended for the MVP.

I think this stilll comes down to what people think MVP is. Some people thinks it's just a superstar on a winning team, some people think its the player most VALUABLE to his team. In this case, if you apply to the second one, Iverson should definitely be considered as a candidate. In the article above, it's so true that it's amazingly difficult to take AI out of the game. What do you think their record would be without him with a starting line up like this

    PG-Salmons
    SG-Green/Iggy
    SF-Korver
    PF-Thomas
    C-Dalembert

No, they'll probably be worse than the Hornets. The Suns if they didn't have Steve Nash, they would still have a good/decent record, the reason they had a 5 game losing streak is because they're used to Nash leading them, tellilng them what to do. After maybe 10 games I think they will just bounce back. The Spurs could be a good team without Tim Duncan.

Lebron James should get the consideration of MVP. This is my list of top MVP's

    Steve Nash
    Lebron
    Shaq

I don't think Duncan deserves it that much this year. He has a very strong supporting cast. The Spurs will still do great without him. Oh yea, shouldn't Webber also get the consideration? The Kings are an elite team again, in my opinion better than the Mavs. Webber is avergaing lilke 23 points 11 rebounds 6 assists? Don't you think he deserves more to win the MVP than Dirk? He's been injuried and he's been getting criticized by everybody.

If the Sixers can get 5-10 games above 500, Iverson SHOULD be one of the top candidate for the MVP

Ya that article had a few good points in there and was an interesting read. The thing is All it talks about his is indivudal success this year, and then it says this team isn't as good as the 2001 squad which it's not but a MVP should make his team better than 19-21 regardless of poor scheduling.

I agree with you that if Iverson can get the Sixers 10 games over .500% that he can possibly win MVP.If the Sixers can maintain that fate they will surely win the Atlantic Divvision. That would be a major plus as the Sixers will be a top 3 seeded team. THe Voters will probably look at the leading team in each division and find out what playr should get it.
    Example,

    Atlantic
    Sixers: Allen Iverson
    Central
    Cavailers: LeBron James
    SouthEast
    Heat: Shaq
    Pacific
    Suns: Steve Nash
    NorthWest
    Seattle: Ray Allen
    SouthWest
    Spurs: Tim Duncan

I think that they will look at the top division leaders in each division and see who their best player is, choose out of them who has had the best year.

Out of all the times Iverson has been in the limelight, why is it when he's playing his best nobody recognizes it? It may seem as if I'm trying to consider him a MVP candidate, but that's not the story, but we talk about players that's been performing well and I rarely hear Iverson name. Since it will be a long shot for him earning MVP honors, I hope he can surprisingly make it to the All-NBA First Team if he keeps up with his spectacular play.

It's a shame when you have someone like him performing at such a high-level but ultimately gets no type of hardware to accommodate that. But that's how the NBA is, that?s how life is for that matter. However, if Iverson keeps his head up and continues to play hard, you never know, one day he could get that hardware he?s really after, and that?s a championship ring.

His chances for MVP are little to none. But like someone said in this thread, if he can get his team to at least ten games over .500, you never know what might happen.
