J.R. Smith is really great and has the potential to be a superstar. In his rookie season he started, played well and his averages were 10 pts and 2 rebounds, not to bad coming out of highschool. Another accomplishment he had was he did an unforgettable dunk in the Dunk Contest. This kid shows flashes of superstardom everytime he plays and can be a star. In my opinion with the mixture of Chris Paul he will only get better and his stats next season will increase to 15 points 5 rebounds. The year after that they will only get better so my question for you guys is does anyone else think J.R will reach super star level?

Yeah he was one of my favorite rookies last season. I think him and Chris Paul will become a great duo. Also I think in years to come he could become an all star with all the potential he has.

I agree with you Paul and Smith will become one of the best backouts in the league and Smith will become a superstar he has all the skills to do this.

I think the mix of him and Paul could be the most promising young backcourt in the league next season after Hinrich and Gordon. Smith has a good head on his shoulders and his parents keep him humble. I was watching NBA Rookies a show on spike TV and saw how his parents treat him, and have him take care of his money. Hopefully he stays humble while his talents improve. Also for his sake at this years dunk contest he can get Chris Paul to throw him the ball and not Anderson maybe then he will win it.

I thought Smith would be an all star level player when I saw him play in the McDonalds Highschool game.I remember he had incredible range and athleticism.Just the combination of being able to finish around the hoop like that as well as his ability to shoot jumpers from well beyond NBA distance was amazing.

Smith is something special, and he along with Chris Paul can really take the Hornets to the next level in a couple of years.

I think the few NBA Hornets fans, and people who follow HS basketball know that JR Smith is a star in the making. The term superstar is overused, but JR definitely has the potential and skills to be one. Chris Paul can help him reach stardom quicker than many other young PG's so it wouldn't surprise me to see him in an All-Star game in a couple of years.

J.R. won't develop into an all star until the Hornets can get a player that can make him better. Paul and Smith are a promising duo and Smith needs a player of Paul's quality.

my beef with JR is that he is a BAD defensive player. i see him as a better version of flip murray, in that he'll be able to score lights out, but will give a lot of those points on the other end.

I realize that, thats why I mentioned Paul. But you can't rely on a rookie to come in and make your players better, that is really what I'm trying to say.

jr smith in my opinion can be the next kobe bryant. he actually has better stats than kobe in his rookie year. he is a great dunker like kobe, and he is a good shooter like kobe. what he needs to do is work on his range, which kobe had trouble on early in his career as well, and to work on his D, which i think kobe also had trouble with early on. if he can do all that, he'll to one heck of a player.

It pains me to say so, but Kobe Bryant is one of the top five pros ever. I cannot see J. R. Smith ever reaching that level of confidence and competitiveness. Kobe Bryant is there with Jordan, Bird, Johnson and you can fill in the next space. I agree with the posts above about the new PG. He'll make everyone look good. He'll get in too far and deep and have TOs while he learns about his competition, but the assists and 45-55% FG% and 90% FT % will outweigh any mistakes.

Smith is a good player, needs to develope some defensive skills but if he reaches Kobe's level and wants to be better then he has to realize how good of a player he has beside him, whoever it will be.If you lool at all-time greats you see how they realized who are they playing with. (Dr.J and Moses,Bird and the bunch of guys he had,Oscar Roberston and Lew Alcindor,Magic and Kareem.Everytime Magic talks about playing with Kareem he thanks god that he had him, saying that he made him better but Kobe didn't get that he played with Shaq and wanted to lead the team himself,I hope JR and Paul will get along)

I saw a quote from Smith last week that his best friend on the team is Chris Paul. I think the quote was in the NOLA.com website.

Actually that was one of Chris Paul's biggest strengths coming out of the draft is his ability to make other players around the court better with his passing ability. I don't know who will stop Paul from coming in and making the players around him better. Plus, who else would the Hornets rely on to make the other people better? Dan Dickau? I don't think so.

As for JR Smith, I will say that he will take his game to a superstar level either this season or next season. I can feel a "Dwyane Wade" like breakout season for him, and potentially making the all-star team.

Smith right now needs to work on his shot selection, and drive more often to the basket, he plays like Crawford now, hes obviously extremely talented, but JR needs to work on his all around game to reach that superstar level.

Lew Alcindor and Kareem are the same person.

I dont think J.R Smith is gonna be better than Kobe. I think the absolute best case scenerio will be him putting up Vince Carter numbers (Of recent years (Not including play with nets)) Somethine like 22/5/3

I disagree... Kobe is nowhere near the top 5 players of all time... some could even argue he's not even a top 5 SG of all time!

I think J.R. Smith has the potential to be a star, especailly with the addition of Chris Paul. He has the mould of a swingman like Carter, Kobe etc.

Let's say Carter without the attitude, and with a work ethic.
