Washington Mystics General Manager Angela Taylor announced that Jacinta Monroe underwent successful surgery at Sibley Memorial Hospital to repair a fracture of her left hand. Monroe suffered the injury during the first half of the Mystics' 65-61 overtime victory against the Chicago Sky this past Saturday, June 19.

The procedure was performed by Dr. David Moss of Washington Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. She is expected to return to basketball activities in 6-8 weeks.

"It is very unfortunate that Jacinta has suffered this injury at this time. After missing all of training camp, she was starting to adjust to playing in the WNBA and was making a number of very positive contributions to our team on and off the floor. Jacinta is an extremely hard worker, so we know that she will recover from this injury."

A 6-5 post player from Florida State University, Monroe has earned numerous accolades during her collegiate career. She was drafted in the first round (sixth overall) of the 2010 WNBA draft.

The Washington Mystics will host the Los Angeles Sparks on Thursday, June 24 at 7:00 p.m. Season and group tickets for the 2010 season are currently on sale and can be purchased by calling the Mystics Sales Office at 1-877-DC-HOOP1 or by visiting the Mystics web site at www.washingtonmystics.com.
