An ineffective but healthy Jake Peavy lasted just 3 2/3 innings in his minor league rehab start with Double-A Birmingham. In his first game action outside of Arizona, Peavy had planned on going five innings and throwing 75 pitches. He was pulled when his pitch count reached 72. "Everything went well tonight; it was a step in the right direction," Peavy said. "My arm felt better than it has in quite a while. I didn't command the ball the way I hoped, but it was nice to be under some lights in a nice competitive atmosphere." The Chicago White Sox right-hander, who developed rotator cuff tendinitis this spring while rehabbing from surgery in July to reattach his latissimus dorsi muscle, is lined up to make his 2011 major league debut on April 28 if he doesn't have any more setbacks.
