Jam Season Ends in 125-108 Win over Bayhwaks

    The Bakersfield Jam (24-26) defeated the Erie BayHawks (16-34), 125-108 at home Saturday night to close the 2013-14 season.
    Bakersfield started the game with a high-level of energy and effort from all Jam starters as they each contributed points and held Erie to just 34.8% shooting in the first quarter to surge a 36-26 lead after one. The Jam maintained their double-digit lead ending the first half up 69-50. In the attempt to cut their double digit deficit Erie outscored Bakersfield in the third (30-21). Bakersfield came back in the fourth quarter to respond with thrusting power as they commanded victory to finish the final frame, 35-28.

    Overall, Bakersfield outshot Erie (53.6%-46.2%), shot a higher percentage from beyond the arc (40% -31%), had more rebounds (46-40), points in the paint (64-54), and fast break points (31-21).

    Jerel McNeal led the Jam with 23 points, five assists, and three steals. Dennis Horner (17 points, 10 rebounds) and Ike Diogu (17 points, 11 rebounds) finished the night with double-doubles. Derrick Byars had 16 points, while Billy Bapstist contributed 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds off the bench.

    Erie was paced by Justin Brownlee who scored 24 points. Scott Suggs posted 21 points and four rebounds. Darren White tallied 14 points along with Cleveland Melvin who added 12 points, both off the bench.
