Jameer says any guard who wants to beat him out for a starting position will have to go through hell, because he intends to prove he's one of the best in the league and is certainly already a starting caliber player, I'm very inclined to side with him. http://www.floridatoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/.../507060327/1002
I think Jammer should start next year and he will start for the Magic next year he is a good player and a future star.
I'm against Jameer starting if Francis plays the 2 guard. Jameer definetely has the talent to start at PG, but we would be so messed up because every guard will be able to just drive and score/pass at will because we are too small and not too skilled defensively(mainly talking about Francis). Our defense would be just as bad if not worse. I prefer Jameer to come off the bench and light up the 2nd unit with Hedo so that we don't always fall behind when the 2nd unit comes in like we did last year.
Jameer Nelson definitely has the potential to start anyone who saw him his four years at St Joes like I did knows he is the ultimate floor leader I think with time he can become a good defender, and should start if it came down to talent. We have no other option that is better than him in terms of talent to take his spot. Diener is not that much taller than Jameer and is a bit weaker in strength as well so he really is not a big threat, and Francis? ball handling ability is not up to par for him to play point guard in a run and gun offense. He will dominate the ball too much and not get it to the open player as quickly as a pure point guard will. Even Howard said last season he thought a reason Steve did not pass to him was a trust issue, and that he hopes Francis will trust him more this season, but that was not the case. Francis simply is a ball dominating guard so the shooting guard position is the perfect spot for him. He just really needs to dedicate himself on the defensive end it is not like he does not have the talent to perform well at that end of the court. Anyway I know the size would be a concerning factor, but Nelson is the best option to start at point guard for this team, and I would personally not mind seeing him start. We could always play a zone defense instead of man to man so that the matchups would not be as big a factor.
This is interesting because that means we would have to play Francis at shooting guard. I think Jameer is good enough to start but won't because Hill is going to move Francis back to point guard.
I really don't think Hill has any plans yet, and I understand how this works but a 6th man isn't usually a pg, Usually you want your very best pg on the floor to start a game, and if Jameer is (I already believe it, and it sounds like he has really resolved to get way better) I think he should start.
