Former national intelligence director hammers the president’s actions, calling James Comey’s firing ‘another victory for Russia’ Former director of national intelligence James Clapper has accused Donald Trump of placing American democratic institutions “under assault” following the sacking of James Comey and cautioned that the former FBI director’s removal is “another victory” for Russia. The forceful criticism comes as the justice department began screening candidates for Comey’s replacement and Democrats renewed calls for a special prosecutor to oversee an investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election. “I think in many ways our institutions are under assault,” Clapper told CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday. “Both externally, and that’s the big news here, is Russian interference in our election system. And I think as well our institutions are under assault internally.” When asked to clarify if the internal assault came from the president directly, the former spy chief added: “Exactly.” In a later interview on ABC news, Clapper added that “the Russians have to consider this [Comey’s sacking] as another victory on the scoreboard for them”. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/may/14/james-clapper-donald-trump-russia-james-comey-firing
Is this the same guy who spied on everyone and lied about it??? Yeah, don't ever care what he says about anything ever. I'd ask a used car salesman first.
All we need is step two. 1. Fire Comey 2. ??????? 3. Putin rules America Man, step two must be big. Will watch CNN and see if Maxine Waters scoops everyone. If anyone out there has the real dirt on Trump, please for me leak it to Maxine Waters. Would be must see tv.
Trump should have accepted he won and let it go. He appears to be incredibly insecure when what happened 6 months ago is fresh in his head today. TWEETING is a reflection of his inner thoughts. The process is a fascinating display of a leader with more worry for himself than for his country. The Russian connection with Comey's name associated with the investigation further illustrates the guy is incapable of handling himself in diplomatic course.
The thing about Clapper is he's an Obama appointee. I quote him because on his way out, he did his best to leave landmines for the incoming administration. So when he says "no evidence of collusion," it should mean something to Obama supporters. It wouldn't mean much for me to cite Hannity, or whoever from the right.
Nate Silver wrote that states with new voter ID laws would see a voting turnout decrease by 2.4%. I don't think much of that is somehow intimidating legal people from voting, though I agree there should be no impediment to voting. The 2.4% figure suggests there is a lot of illegal voting going on. Some estimates are higher at between 7% and 13%. For example, one poll of 800 likely hispanic voters were asked if they are American citizens and 13% admitted they were not. The range of actual illegal voters would be between 525,000 and 3,000,000 using the range of estimates I found. This one found 6.4% of non citizens voted in the 2008 election: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0261379414000973 Highlights • First use of representative sample to measure non-citizen voting in USA. • Some non-citizens cast votes in U.S. elections despite legal bans. • Non-citizens favor Democratic candidates over Republican candidates. • Non-citizen voting likely changed 2008 outcomes including Electoral College votes and the composition of Congress. • Voter photo-identification rules have limited effect on non-citizen participation. Abstract In spite of substantial public controversy, very little reliable data exists concerning the frequency with which non-citizen immigrants participate in United States elections. Although such participation is a violation of election laws in most parts of the United States, enforcement depends principally on disclosure of citizenship status at the time of voter registration. This study examines participation rates by non-citizens using a nationally representative sample that includes non-citizen immigrants. We find that some non-citizens participate in U.S. elections, and that this participation has been large enough to change meaningful election outcomes including Electoral College votes, and Congressional elections. Non-citizen votes likely gave Senate Democrats the pivotal 60th vote needed to overcome filibusters in order to pass health care reform and other Obama administration priorities in the 111th Congress. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/measuring-the-effects-of-voter-identification-laws/ Pennsylvania, for instance, went from having no voter ID laws to a strict photo ID requirement. Based on the academic studies, I estimate that this will reduce turnout by about 2.4 percent as a share of registered voters. And based on my formula to convert changes in turnout to changes in the popular vote, I estimate that this would reduce President Obama’s margin against Mitt Romney by a net of 1.2 percentage points.
Reminds me of one of my favorites from youtube. I think this is the one but I didn't watch it, searched for the link and it looks right.
