The NBA's reigning Sixth Man of the Year, Antawn Jamison, has set his sights on new goals this season, helping America's homeless kids get an education. The Washington Wizards star will donate two dollars to the STANDUP FOR KIDS Organization for every point he scores this season. His donation will be used for the Organization's new program to help homeless and street kids get educations.

"Most people don't realize how many kids are homeless and forced to live on the streets everyday right in their own cities," says Jamison.

According to the National Runaway Switchboard, each year they receive more than 120,000 phone calls from youth and concerned adults who are reaching out for help. They report that one out of every seven children will run away before the age of 18, and that there are 1.3 million runaway and homeless youth living on the streets in the United States.

Since 1990, STANDUP FOR KIDS has been walking the streets to rescue, educate, and involve homeless and at-risk youth. "Most often, the street kids we see are alone and crying, dirty, hungry, misused and abused," says founder Rick Koca. "They are struggling to survive and, for the most part they believe that no one cares!"

Jamison is showing that he cares and is encouraging companies and individuals to do the same by pledging to donate some amount for his season ending point total to STANDUP FOR KIDS as well. "Everyone deserves the chance to get a high school diploma that can help them get a job and support themselves," adds Jamison.

I have said it before and I'll say it again Antawn Jamison is the most kind hearted player in the NBA.

Well Jamison is one of the better guys in the NBA, someone that does a lot of good is also Dikembe Mutombo, he's always doing stuff.

Sameul Dalmbert has also been helping out the people in Haitii, but this is a good thing by Jamison.

Indeed, I think it is an amazingly kind hearted thing for the man to do. It is ironic, Jamison, as well as Dalmbert, and Mutombo, and many of the other players in the NBA who do work for Charity get very little press, while if a player requests a trade, or has criminal charges laid against them, they'e front page news...

I agree with the mega greg, its stupid how an athletes criminal law suit gets so much attention the only difference between me and him is that he's rich and if I had a law suit against me no one would give a rats ass. Sorry for the language, but this kind of stuff deserves to get more newspapers writing it than some silly trade demand.

Jamison is the best kind of player there is. The Wiz should be proud to have him on their team. I thoroughly enjoyed having him as a Warrior and miss seeing him here. Sure he may be overpaid, but its not his fault and he never threatened to holdout or anything. If you guys keep letting him shoot his little runner, he'll get back to being a big time scorer.
