Jason Kendall won't be behind the plate for the Kansas City Royals' season opener, though he might be by mid-April. Kendall had extensive shoulder surgery last September and was expected to be out nine to 12 months, but he is way ahead of schedule. He will catch five to six innings in a minor league game Sunday and is penciled in to catch in two major league games before the Royals break camp.
