not very likely, they weren't willing to pay the rest of Shaq's 30 million contract so they're probably not going to take on Kidd's huge contract.
no, i dont think they traded shaq because of his contract, they traded him for other reason like the fact he did not get along with the organization, he didnt want to be on the team, and also they didnt win after they were the big dogs in the finals. so the lakers were going to pay his contract if he put up the W in the scoreboard for them so they traded him simple as that i think its possible i mean if kupcheck was able to bring in payton and malone in 1 year im sure he cud work on kidd but i thought the lakers hit the salary cap or do they still have room?
Knowing the Lakers and everything it would not surprise me but I really don't think they want to take his huge contract.
Bad idea. The Lakers should be tryin to stay youthful. The Lakers dont need to aquire Kidd who has a bad knee and is already 31. It will also keep sasha from developing. WIth the lineup we have now, gary and sasha can still share some playin time.

The main reason was that it was either Kobe or Shaq and they chose Kobe. Shaq's huge contract and likely upcoming extension factored into that equation as well. I don't think they wanted to pay him the money he was going to demand for an extension, especially with his age and history of injuries.
If he didn't have the bad knees I think it would be something the Lakers would have looked at very seriously. Yes money and cap space play a lot in trades, but I don't think the Lakers would have minded paying him that much if he were healthy. True they didn't want to pay Shaq what he wanted, but maybe that was because he was asking for over $30 Million a year? Kidd's contract is pretty big but it doesn't look that big compared to what Shaq wanted. In all, I don't think the Lakers are interested in him. They would be locked into a 5 year deal with him, and with his knee problems you don't know how if he'll even last that long. Plus as someone said earlier, the Lakers are trying to become younger, so I can't see them bringing him in.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Lakers, meanwhile, don't appear interested in taking on Kidd's contract, sources said, since a Kidd-Kobe Bryant backcourt partnership would keep L.A. well over the salary cap for the rest of the decade.</div> It's in the article, lakers aren't interested
yeah, it would stupid to get another old player to la. i mean kidd would be excellent if hed still be young. anyways, money is a problem.
I don't think Kobe would like the ideal of someone else running the team. but if it happen who would they trade?
if kidd becomes a laker the will once again be unstopable! they will win the championship. the lakers will be stupid if they dont get kidd! they need him
Uh...they don't NEED him. "the lakers will be stupid if they dont get kidd!" It's not as easy as you think... "another reason.... what if kobe goes to jail who will they depend on??? If Kobe goes to jail then we're not winning anyway.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting antawnNwizards3:</div><div class="quote_post">if kidd becomes a laker the will once again be unstopable! they will win the championship. the lakers will be stupid if they dont get kidd! they need him</div> Who wiil they trade to get Kid. if they (lakers) get O'neal back I could see your point. with kid they will better a fast break team but what about when the game is slowed down(half court) they can't compete with the big boys.
I've always been a J-Kidd fan, but his age, health, and contract make him a hard sale for me to wear a Laker jersey. After 30, injuries just don't heal the same and it's hard for a player to fully heal from the injury, let alone a knee problem. I think the Lakers are fine with Payton and Sasha in the backcourt already, were we lack depth is in the frontcourt. The Lakers still need one or two more big men to join the roster. I'm hoping we can trade Devean George for some size, or if Cook can develop this summer to be a solid player off the bench. Cook needs to hit the weights and develop his post game more. Last year he started out pounding inside, but then he fell in love with his mid range jumper and got further and further from the hoop.
Why get kidd?? Payton is virtually the same type of player kidd is and he is playing at a much cheaper price. Im not saying payton is as good as kidd at this point of his career but GP will bring most of the things kidd does without crippling our salery cap.
We need to go bigger. Kidd at $90 million is not what I call a good deal. Like Lakeshow mentioned, GP will fit the bill just fine. We need to find more size for the frontcourt.
I like shapecity's idea of trading George for a big guy. I don't see what the Lakers see in George...is there any possibility of trading George for someone like Chris Mihm?
