QUOTE

We all know how close Kidd was to being traded to the Lakers last season, and that he said over the summer how he wondered what could have been had the Nets pulled the trigger on a deal that would have made him teammates with Kobe Bryant.
Kobe went out of his way, too, to let it be known how much he wanted Kidd. Then Kidd played with Kobe and other stars on the national team over the summer and gushed about the experience. He said the game was so easy he barely had to do anything aside from set his teammates up with nifty passes.
Clearly, Kidd can’t just sit back and watch his teammates score now. They need him more than that collection of stars did over the summer. And if he’s going to help, he has to be mentally right. He’s not — not now anyway.
Kidd didn’t exactly back up his talk with stellar play last night, scoring just two points on 1-for-9 shooting and turning the ball over six times in a 102-75 loss to the Jazz. But he will be in L.A. on Sunday for the first time since last season’s trade deadline passed. As of right now, the Lakers are 6-3, and showing more signs of hope than the Nets.
This could get interesting.

Source: NY Daily News

QUOTE (mynetsforlife)

You have no one we want. Bynum won't cut it.

It would probably have to involve a 3rd team looking to get cap relief.

Lol, you're nuts if you think Bynum is worth Kidd now a days. I was the biggest Bynum opposer, but he's really a different player this year. He's attacking the rim with a passion, and when he does that...there isn't a center in this league that can stop him from dunking the ball. I would involve Bynum in a package for Kidd, anymore.
You'd have to convince me to even go after Kidd, honestly. Jordan Farmar is playing with a chip on his shoulder, trying to suppress Crittenton's threat to him. This team is clicking really well, even if we're only about 10 games into the season. I'll take their youth of Kidd's next 2 or 3 productive years...as I think all Laker fans would, now.

Yeah, the guy above is smoking crack. Kidd isn't worth Bynum anymore. The best the Lakers could offer is probably Kwame's contract and Critt or somethin'.

Kidd and Bryant. That would be one hell of a partnership. Glad he didn't go then and i hope he doesn't go now. The Nets need him.

If anything for Kidd, I'd Offer Odom, Kwame, and maybe Crittenton...but I think he's still the far better PROSPECT than Farmar. He's also a combo guard. A lineup with Kidd instead of Odom would be awesome.
Kidd Kobe Vlad Turiaf Bynum
Imagine Kidd driving and kicking it out to Vlad or Kobe for the three, or dishing it to Bynum for the simple dunk? If the Nets want Lamar Odom, then I'd love to deal...but no way in hell are they touching Bynum.
Shape, are you amazed I'm actually defending Bynum?

I told you he'd be impressive this year. Last year I would have traded him for Kidd, because I didn't think he took basketball seriously, but his effort this summer proved everyone wrong. Let's just hope that he continues playing with a chip on his shoulder too. The trio of Kidd-Odom-Kobe could have made a serious run in last year's playoffs. But Bynum looks really good early on and I don't see any signs of him regressing like he did last year.
The jury still out on Odom (it's becoming a cliche), but I want to see if he can finally put it all together this year and play at an All-Star level. He still doesn't have his legs back yet.

I'm sick of the jury being hung on Odom, he needs to either be efficient or be a half-assed great role player in this league. Once he is fully in condition, it should be much easier for him with Radman being healthy and Bynum being a force.

QUOTE (mynetsforlife)

Way to over-value your players...

Is Kidd's value even that high anymore? I don't remember seeing any earth shattering deals being offered for him last season when they were shopping him at the trade deadline.

Way to contribute great knowledge to the conversation. I'm blown away by your intellectual ability to maturely add to the discussion at hand!
Kidd's value has been pretty low for awhile now, the Nets aren't going to get anything mind-blowing for him...he's too old.

QUOTE (mynetsforlife)

Way to over-value your players...

Kidd is obviously the better player, but when you factor in age, salary expense, and upside potential of Bynum he trumps Kidd. Talented 7 foot centers aren't abundant, you should know first hand being a Nets fan. How many experiments have they gone through at the center position the last 10 years?
Bynum is still only 20 years old. He's been a beast to start the season off and is doing it against some of the better teams in the league.

This isn't a simple case of value, just like Kobe wasn't a simple case of value. Sure Kidd doesn't have a no-trade clause like Kobe, but it is extremely unlikely that Rod Thorn would trade Kidd somewhere he wouldn't want to play.
Additionally, Kidd and Kobe have such an impact on their teams that you can't just replace their stats with other players.

After the deal is done then people can go back and figure out if the team overvalued or undervalued their acquisition, but you are what the market dictates you are.

Nets would be dumb not to trade Kidd for Bynum. An old guy with no future for what will be the best center in a year or two for 10 to 15 years continuing.

I'd offer Kwame, Luke, and Vujacic for Kidd + Collins
Or Odom, Mihm, and Vujacic for Kidd + Collins
