Jason Kidd asked to help Coach K for world championships

Twelve young NBA stars will be traveling to Las Vegas this week to start practice with Team USA for the world championships in Turkey later this summer. ESPN is reporting that there will also be one oldster in the house: 37-year-old Dallas Mavericks guard Jason Kidd(notes).

Kidd hasn't made the roster. He'll be there as a special guest of coach Mike Krzyzewski to "serve as a mentor and sounding board" for the team that has a new cast of characters, ESPN reports. None of the players from the team that won gold at the 2008 Olympics are returning.

In his international career, Kidd has never been on a losing team. His squads have gone 56-0, and he owns two Olympic gold medals from victories in 2000 and 2008.
