Is that a big honor? I know it's NIKE and all but I thought only NBA's thoughts mattered? Again as always, correct me if I'm wrong. I'm still pretty much new to the more recent NBA.

They use to announce the winner on NBA tv but now the fans vote so all it is a popularity contest. It doesnt mean as much as the NBA player of the week but it is still a good notch to have under your belt.
Yea, only players who are endorsed by Nike are eligable for this award. It's an interesting award, and I enjoy watching the highlights showing the (excellent) play of the winner of the award.
