Albeit a minor one. http://blog.oregonlive.com/behindblazersbeat/2009/02/calm_waters_or_a_ripple_should.html I still think we need a larger impact player or we are just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.
I like the fact that Quick is starting to question Nate's decisions about switching. Nice quality digs by the way.
Q: Where's Jason Quick? A: He's out walking his pet rat. Is it not bad enough Quick doesn't understand pro sports or pro athletes, that he has to write crap.
funny thing is outlaw hasn't been that bad defensively and has one of the best PERs in the league for a backup AS A PF. that probably reflects the matchup problems he creates for other teams when we go small. his numbers only suck as a SF.
When trade requests are coming from one of the biggest "rah rah" beat reporters I've ever read there might just be something to it. I fully agree with Quick.
Uh, sea urchins are spherical, and spiny. They don't coil up. I'd expect better marine biology from the Blazer beat reporter! barfo
But besides the sea urchin thing, I have to say I like the new, take no shit Quick. I like him calling out Nate when Nate says completely stupid stuff. Which is disturbingly often. barfo
Unfortunately, he plays about 2/3 of his time at SF (38% of the team's total SF minutes--compared w/16% of the team's minutes at PF).
I've been pretty slow to play the blame game with Nate, but after reading that article I'm seriously starting to wonder if KP and Nate are having trouble seeing the forest for the trees. I don't think blowing the bitch up is the answer, but this youth movement thing has gotten out of control; this team needs a Battier-like player in the worst way. Part of the problem I see is that maybe KP has tasked Nate with a nearly impossible job; that of simultaneously developing 4 rookies, and 12 players 25 and younger. and the 3 that are old enough to know what to do on their own, are either hanging out on a farm in Iowa or don't posses the personality type or high enough level of game to get in the grill of their teammates and have credibility to do it. Battier, Posey, Udoka ... somebody who's made a career playing smart tough D ... anybody.
Sergio for Ime? That doesn't excite me much. Frye for Kurt Thomas? Sure, why not? I don't know if the Spurs would do it or not.
Haha, ain't that the truth! I really wish Frye was better because he sure seems like a great guy. I thought he was going to be able to give us 16 solid minutes a game this season, instead he's only given us 16 solid minutes for the season.
Well, it's obvious that our defense continues to be lacking and I agree with Quick. I wouldn't mind a minor trade to bring in a veteran who's been through the wars, and able to teach the young guys something. Right now, our NBA basketball IQ is pretty low since everyone is young and doesn't know the NBA game yet. And it's possible that Nate isn't as bad of a defensive coach that people think. He just doesn't have defensive-minded players on the roster. Bringing back Ime doesn't really excite me, since he hasn't really been through the wars that much. Shane Battier? I'd jump on that if we could get him for cheap.
