Has been signed up to play summer league with you guys I believe. Now that's a pretty nice summer league team you've got going... PG - Monta Ellis SG - Mickael Pietrus (?) SF - Jawad Williams PF - Ike Diogu C - Chris Taft Most of the bigger undrafted names have been snaffled up now, although I think Kennedy Winston is still without a team.
Jawad Williams... Not familar with his game, but supposedly he's an athletic, defensive 3/4 right? Might be good for covering up our big hole at the 3.
I really like Jawad. I remember watching a number of UNC games, particularly in the NCAA tournament, where I'd specifically try to see why people were so impressed with Marvin Williams. There were a number of times where I'd see a guy wearing a Williams jersey that'd make a great hustle play and I'd say, "oh, that's why scouts like him." But more often than not, it was Jawad Williams making the hustle plays. He's another guy, like Skita, where I'd love to see the Warriors sign him and put him in the NBDL for a year or two. Williams has less upside, but he's the kind of guy I'd love to have stashed on the IR under the old CBA rules.
Considering how many injuries we pick up during the season, sure why not? It would be good to at least have some kind of a defensive stopper for the frontcourt and not just the backcourt (Pietrus). Biedrins could work on the 4/5's like Cliff Robinson maybe?
I'm with wtwalker on this, I like Jawad. He hit some big shots in the finals (while Marvin seemed to be wilting under the pressure), and shows a willingness to do what it takes to win. He just got stuck at the 4 when his natural position is 3. He's supposed to be a good defender, good athlete. I'm hoping he can be a defensive presence at the 3, and develop his perimeter game. I don't think he goes to the NBDL, though. As I understand it, a team can only have two players there, and that would be Ellis and Taft. Final point, as I understand it, Jawad did not sign with the W's, he's just agreed to play summer ball for us. So I don't think we have rights to him at the moment... Anyone know more on that?
I thought the Warriors would bring a player like Eddie Basden in. He's more of the defensive stopper the team could use. Jawad Williams is decent, but I doubt he cracks the roster. I think Rodney White is better than him.

That's always the way it works with summer league invitees.

I don't think that will work because Pietrus is our future 6'6 defensive stopper with scoring ability and I think we're looking for defensive stoppers at the 3 and sometimes the 4. It would be nice if we could find some bulky wing that could shut players down players that are long 6'8's and 230+ lbs. Closest candidate I can think of is former Chicago Bull/ former Toronto Raptor, Chris Jeffries, and I don't think he showed enough desire or enough skill to sign with any team. At Fresno State, Jerry Tarkanian, would sic Jeffries on the opposing team's best scorer and he could it at the 2/3 and lock players down. He can also shoot like Bruce Bowen so he's not totally useless on offense. He's good in the open court, but can't handle the ball. Bo Outlaw is another name that comes to mind but I'm not sure if he's even guarded small forward ever... I guess our team has to run around with holes in our lineup because I just don't think there's any room on our roster to include another player because of Dunleavy being the only true small forward and guys who are more successful in their roles are Zarko and Pietrus and might not be successful starters (change in chemistry). Neither of them should be playing small forward without some kind of checks and balances against the other team's offensive scoring at the 3 spot, but it's not just that, we have to juggle minutes between players under contract versus those that probably aren't even in any longterm plans.
