Jay-Z Reporting Bidding On Nets http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1666119 <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Music rap performer Jay-Z has retained the New York City investment banking firm of Andrew, Alexander,Wise and Co. to explore the possibility of making a bid to purchase the New Jersey Nets, sources told ESPN. The YankeeNets holding company, which runs the franchise, put it up for auction in September and is now receiving bids. The Newark Star Ledger reported last week that New York developer Bruce Ratner had emerged as the high bidder for the Nets with an offer of $275 million. </div> I hope he does get the Nets..That would be interesting to say the least.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Rudeezy:</div><div class="quote_post">He could be the next Mark Cuban.</div> ah hahahaha...no
I'm not sure what you folks are thinking, but what is so great about Jay-Z partially or fully owning an NBA team? He is an entertainer, not a Sports Franchise expert. And before you start with the "but he started RF records and he did this and he did that and he's a hustler and it would be nice to see another black-owned sports francise".... Stop right there. There should be more minority ownership in all sports, but the right ownership. Jay-Z knows nothing about sports team ownership. Robert L. Johnson has the resources and business accumen to develop a new NBA francise. No disrespect to Jay-Z, but he should do what he does best - entertain, not sports ownership. He would just be doing a disservice to that francise.

He's rich, but does he really have that much money? I think he's a tool and ruins that one song with Pharell. "frontin" blaaaaah

Owner's do a lot less than you people think, Jay-Z could do this if he wanted to. Not every franchise has a Mark Cuban on the sidelines for every game.
JAY Z owning the nets would be one of the best things to happen in the NBA in terms of ownership,it would be fantastic...it would be great all round + hell be hanging with Martin and Kidd........It would make me more interested in the nets funnily enough.

Music, Clothing, Culture. That's Jay. If that's all it takes, call up Russell Simmons and see if he wants the Knicks. Someone else brought up the other point - is his pockets that deep? Once again, I don't know. But people say and do anything for publicity. Gee - it seems strange this starts to jump up <font color="DarkRed">JUST </font> as he releases his latest albulm. Hmmmm, I wonder if somebody is trying to get his name out in the front?
why not let him try....he should try new things...he would bring them to BK right? Kidd would then ask for a trade right?

Owners don't really make too many decisions reguarding the team itself. Even if Jay-Z decided that he no longer wanted a player like Kenyon Martin on his team there would be many executives that would have the final say on the matter before anything happened. Jay-Z would also be useful in terms of drawing crowds. There is not a team in the league more desperate to fill up the seats than New Jersey. Imagine all the ways Jay-Z can promote the Nets. I think he'd be the perfect owner. However, if he has any real intentions of moving the team to New York then I think he should not be allowed to own the team. The team doesn't need to move to New York. They are already very close to New York. There would be no reason to move the team a few miles. It'd also cost them the heart and soul of their franchise in return. Even though the Nets could get an All-Star in return for Kidd like McGrady or Pierce, I doubt anyone could work with that team like he does. He is vital to their offense. Without Kidd that team is lost.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Air Canada:</div><div class="quote_post">New York is a perfect place for this team !</div> Kick or keep the Knicks? Brooklyn Nets. Now that is a tight name.
Wow, imagine Jigga-man's Nets against P-diddy's Knicks.... it would be classic to have these two giants own the music and b-ball industry... BTW... who wouldn't mind Beyonce Knowles in a nets cheerleading uni? ahh smokin!
Update: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">That leaves the Nets with three suitors: New York developer Bruce Ratner, who has bid $275 million and wants to move the team to Brooklyn; New Jersey developer Charles Kushner and U.S. Sen. Jon Corzine, who bid $267.5 million and would keep the team in the Meadowlands at a renovated Continental Airlines Arena; and New York financier Stuart Feldman, who bid $257.5 million but has yet to publicly discuss his plans for the team.</div> Full Story by MATTHEW FUTTERMAN
