"It was an unbelievable finish for the Blue Jays on Wednesday afternoon in a rousing 5-4 victory over the Indians on Cinco de Mayo in what amounted to a fiesta of fabulous baseball follies.

The Jays, one out away from defeat, scored three unearned runs in the ninth, capped by Adam Lind's opposite-field, two-run homer off Chris Perez. It was the team's fourth victory in a row and gently got manager Cito Gaston off a hook of his own questionable design.

After failing to pull any of the right strings from the seventh inning on, Gaston was bailed out when his squad rallied on a two-out double by Fred Lewis, a horrible error by Indians shortstop Luis Valbuena that would have ended it and Lind's game-winning blast.

"When something like that happens, a big error like that, it breathes some life back in the team," starting pitcher Brandon Morrow said. "That little spark was all we needed."

It looked dismal indeed after everything that could go wrong for a manager did go wrong in the seventh. Yes, it's a rebuilding year. At the same time, you have to use the personnel you have and try to win as many games as you can even if you're not planning on contending. Gaston did not do that, failing to pinch-run for Jose Molina with his team one run behind in the late innings with a chance to sweep the series."
