<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The Blue Jays have been locked in negotiations with their 27-year-old all-star right fielder since last October, trying to secure him to a long-term deal. Neither side would deny the figures floating around yesterday – six years, $65 million (all figures U.S.), plus an option for a seventh year that would push the package to $80 million. The contract would not kick in until next year, meaning Rios would remain a Jay until at least 2014.</div> http://www.thestar.com/Sports/Baseball/article/350797
Good deal both sides get what they want, hopefully the Rays can sign Carl Crawford to a similar deal as Rios.
Also signed Aaron Hill pretty much until 2014. Good moves by JP. Both have Gold Glove potential and Hill in particular will be making a modest amount. If Rios can develop into a 35 HR/ 100 RBI/ 25 SB guy yearly then it'd be just perfect.
Good job by JP, Rios is a must sign long-term! He would have had 30/100 last season if he didnt have that leg injury which was a minor set back. With a healthy bullpen and V-Wells we should be able to do some damage.
