<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">BOISE ? Up at his summer place near Bear Lake, assistant coach Phil Johnson whittled away the days pondering how the Jazz might revamp an offense that plodded through a 26-win season in 2004-05.
Down on the farm in southern Illinois, Jerry Sloan just happened to be contemplating the same.
When the two got together for their first planning session in advance of 2005-06, it was as if they were a couple traveling salesmen shopping for new suits.
"We both came up with the same thing," Johnson said.
It's funny how that happens when you've sat side-by-side, the head coach in one chair and his loyal right-hand man in the one next to it, for 17 seasons running.
As a result, the Jazz are scrapping the primary offensive set they've used the past two years and are going back to the one utilized to great success when a point guard named John Stockton and a power forward called Karl Malone made it all work.
The new look was on display Thursday night at Boise State University's Taco Bell Arena, where the Jazz held their first open scrimmage since training camp got under way Tuesday.
"I just have a better feeling about the 1-4 set than the other one," Sloan said when asked about abandoning a two-guard front look.
"We weren't getting what we wanted out of it," Johnson added.
For the last two years, Jazz point guards and shooting guards have shared primary ball-handling and ball-distribution responsibilities. That eased the burden on points in particular, young ones with nowhere near the savvy possessed by NBA all-time steals and assists leader Stockton.</div>
