"The final name in last year's NBA Draft hadn't even been called before the Jazz were on the phone with Wesley Matthews' agent, expressing their interest in having Matthews play for their team at the Orlando, Fla., summer league. "It was kind of bittersweet," agent Lance Young said, with the Jazz having passed on Matthews to draft Michigan State center Goran Suton in the second round. "If you love him so much, why don't you take him with the 50th pick?" Only a year later, Matthews' success story undoubtedly will be repeated Thursday among the players set to share in the disappointment of going undrafted. From such a beginning, Matthews finished his rookie season starting for a playoff team in the Jazz. For undrafted players, the minutes and hours following the draft can prove defining. After talking with three or four teams, Young had Matthews committed to playing in summer league with the Jazz just a half-hour after the draft had ended. That led to an invitation to training camp in the fall, followed by a spot on the opening night roster after Kyle Korver and C.J. Miles both suffered preseason injuries. Matthews went on to average 9.4 points and start 48 games in his first season." http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/jazz/49802581-87/matthews-undrafted-draft-players.html.csp
