Jeff Garcia is having a ball, and that's because he's playing ball — football, that is.

He had hoped to continue an NFL career that began in 1999 but there were no offers for the 40-year-old quarterback, so he did what he considers the next best thing.

Garcia accepted an offer to play for the Omaha Nighthawks of the five-team United Football League.

"It's definitely different," Garcia says with a chuckle. "I would have never foreseen this happening, believing that I still had a lot to offer on the NFL level. And to be sitting here in Omaha, playing for the Omaha Nighthawks, is not anything that was even on my radar."
