"Cody Ross is not the only National League Championship Series MVP in camp. Pitcher Jeff Suppan won it in 2006 for the Cardinals, who beat the Mets and then conquered Detroit in the World Series. Suppan has fallen considerably since then. He signed a four-year, $42 million deal with Milwaukee in 2007 and did not have a winning season. He all but dropped off the map last year after starting the season on the disabled list with a disc injury in his neck. Now 36, Suppan possesses only a minor-league contract and a desire to show he can get outs. He could win a job as a long reliever, which the Giants did not employ last year, and provide injury insurance for the rotation. Suppan has started 411 big-league games."
