<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">After trading Kenyon Martin and Kerry Kittles in cost-cutting moves, the New Jersey Nets wasted little time getting a deal done with forward Richard Jefferson. The Nets and Jefferson, a member of the U.S. Olympic team, have reached an agreement in principle on a multi-year contract extension, the team announced Thursday. Terms were not disclosed, but Jefferson reportedly received a six-year extension for about $78 million. A week ago, New Jersey sent Kittles, the team's starting shooting guard, to the Los Angeles Clippers for a future second-round pick and cash considerations. Two weeks earlier, the Nets shipped Martin, an All-Star power forward, to the Denver Nuggets in a sign-and-trade for three first-round picks. Star point guard Jason Kidd reacted angrily to the moves and requested a trade. However, signing Jefferson could appease Kidd. Acquired from the Houston Rockets on draft day in 2001, Jefferson has averaged 14.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists in his three seasons with the Nets.</div> <div align="center">Link</div>
Its to see that they've locked him up. But why did they announce it now? He's busy with team USA...seems like the wrong time to announce it.
Nice move to make sure they lock him up and nothing happens like with Cleveland and Boozer..But I dont see him as an A list star ever, I see him as an Antawn Jamison type star, not player, I dont think he will ever be able to carry a team, he will be a nice complement..but wont be able to carry a team...kind of like Scottie Pippen

Jefferson can do it but not now i give him 2 maybe 3 season and he will be good enough to carry a team with the right pieces to compliment him.

Because Kenyon said that he couldn't join the Olympic team cause he had to deal with contract negotiations. But Jefferson just did it without even having to step foot on US soil. So that excust that KMart gave was a bunch of bull. And now KMart and everyone else knows it.
Very nice on the Nets part he is without a doubt our future. BTW, RJ has more potenial to be a more impact player then Jamison simply because RJ can create for other people off the dribble, which Jamison can not. RJ has been thru alot of experince in short basketball career that Jamison hasnt come close to going thru, which will allow RJ to become more of a leader as his basketball career goes along. The main thing thats keeping RJ from taking that next step as a basketball player is his shooting. It isnt good enuff to the level where teams respect it so they always play RJ for the drive, which sometimes hampers his offensive ablities. But once RJ gets more consistent range to his jumpshot you will clearly see him make that next step as a basketball player. And his free throw shooting will probably improve as well. Right now, RJ shoots in the low to mid 70's every year from the strip thats to low for someone who slashes and gets to the line as much as RJ does. RJ needs to get in the mid 80% at least, from the free throw line.
that was a cvery smart move to lock him up. at least we have one star on the team even if kidd leaves (which is highly unlikely IMO at least for this season). trust me RJ wont be the next antwain jamesion, you saw waht he did withouth kidd and martin this year. he will only improve in every way. give him 2 more years
The new boss save the expensive player and sign cheap and useful player, that's not bad. but Jefferson is the re-build important player, so the boss must spend large money to stay him.
