in Iannazzone's latest, he offers up these gems. Clearly RJ is not capable of carrying hte offense and his offence is a by-product of teams' defences designed around shutting down Carter. RJ's jumper is iffy at best and when teams load up in the paint denying his penetration, he is done. His passing is also subpar. Anybody remember his passes out of double teams? They either end up out of bounds, (like his pass to JKidd yesterday) or he just doesn't pass at all.
They're tight. No doubt about it. They're finding life without Carter isn't easy. Jefferson will never admit it, but he's learning how important Carter is to his game. Shots were easier and lanes were more open when Carter is out there. There is a reason the Nets are 0-6 without Carter since the 2005-06 season. More proof: three games without Carter, the Nets average 73.7 points compared to 91.5 with him and Jefferson's shooting without Carter is 37.7 percent (23-for-61) compared to 48.3 percent (45-for-93) with him.
njmg.typepad.com/zzone/2007/11/no-magic-but-pl.html

It's understandable. When Jefferson is alone on the floor, all the attention is on him. When you have both him and Carter playing, players tend to react more to VC than RJ. They see him as the greater threat.
Jefferson is going to struggle without Carter, no doubt about it.

But alas, the good ones, the Tracy McGradys, the Kobe Bryants, the Paul Pierces, the Vince Carter, have proven to be great scorers without great secondary support. The threads popping up previously about how RJ can carry an offense are a load of bollocks. He can carry offense through stretches of games as long as teams don't load up on him. But he can't carry a team himself. This is a better team than the one Kidd and Carter worked with down the stretch in 2004-2005 except you sub out Carter for RJ and so far, RJ hasn't proven that he's capable of anything.

Carter needs RJ, RJ needs Carter. When RJ was out, Carter was double-teamed heavily.
I really hope both of them is very very healthy.

Jefferson's lack of passing ability is a real detriment to his offensive game. When carter is getting doubled, he will almost certainly create a play for someone else with a slick pass. When jefferson gets doubled, all I see is sloppy dribbling, forced drives resulting in offensive fouls, or a pass that looks like its directed to me, rather than a player on the court.

^^^ precisely. Jefferson is nothing more than a secondary scorer. He creates very little for others offensively and has a difficult time even manufacturing his own shot at times.

LOL. How could anyone think RJ is a better player or better scorer than VC? Just the fact that some of you thought that is madness!

I don't think thats what people are saying, just that Jefferson is a better scorer when Carter is in the game.
