Source This is a reason I think college is a better learning tool than going to Europe. In college, these kids are given standards they have to meet, such as academics for example. The coaches in college are much more mentor based since they have to develop their players, while in Europe he is nothing more than a project as they pointed out. Either way, this kid is an example why Europe isn't that much of a better route than just going to college. Not everyone is Brandon Jennings
I think it just shows that Europe is only for the best of the best. College is the ideal option for a prospect who need to emotionally and psychologically mature. They can be the "big man on campus" while still receiving nurturing and mentorship specifically designed for them. If a prospect need to learn how to practice and work hard, college is his best option. If he's mature and level-headed enough to know how to do that already, he should seriously think about Europe. It'll better acclimate him to the rigors of the NBA and allow them to develop against much better talent. Plus they can make some cash for their families instead of being used by the college system. Either way, Tyler should be in high school right now. This dude's so out of touch with reality, it's ridiculous.
You have to look at it this way... In college, you are a student athlete. Overseas, you are an employee, you have a job, you are treated as a professional. Tyler went from high school junior (didn't even graduate) immediately into the pros. It should come as no surprise that the kid is struggling adapting not only to the game, but in life as well. I don't think he's mature enough, mentally and physically to be a professional athlete yet.
Nothing wrecks a young player faster than an inflated sense of entitlement. Did this kid have no reasonable, responsible adults around him growing up? Did anyone ever tell him "no!", or teach him the value of hard work?
He made a bad decision. If this basketball thing doesn't work out for him, he doesn't even have a high school education to fall back on...
He can still take a test to finish high school and go to college. He really needs to embrace this wake up call and learn to be humble.
I liked this part: "the consensus is that he is so naïve and immature that he has no idea how naïve and immature he is."
