Jerry Jones Takes The High Road On T.O.

In response to a recent allegation from former Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens that owner Jerry Jones reneged on a promise to keep him, Jones opted not to specifically respond.

“I don’t have anything to say, but we have a great relationship,” Jones said. “I’m sorry we didn’t get this year in on the contract, but I don’t have any pointed comment to what he said that there were people within the organization that didn’t want him here. I read the substance of [the comments]. Bottom line is I don’t really have any comments.”

As Florio Jr. would say, “He didn’t deny it.” (The kid is already cynical. He probably gets it from his mother.)

That said, Jones did the smart thing. With Owens, no one ever gets the last word, other than Owens. And if Jones were to launch a back-and-forth with T.O., the thing would only escalate, with Owens eventually taking a shot at Jones, as Owens has done in the past with others who made the mistake of engaging him verbally.
