Rice needs to walk away from the game now.

Honestly, he should have signed w/ Seattle instead oakland a few years ago. It would saved everyone the trouble.

It might even have been the difference for Seattle last year.

Steve Largent gave Jerry permission to un-retire #80 so he could wear it. Wow...

Can he still play? I think he can. I'll never forget what Greg Biekert said about getting old in this league, paraphrasing - "Your body gets slower but your mind gets faster." "I see plays develop in slow motion in front of me....my mind reacts quicker than my body used to....Since I know where the play is going, I can react faster than someone who is physically faster than me rather than beating them with all out physical speed." I think that Rice is a quarterback among wide receivers, but that will only take him so far in terms of employment right now. Even as the #2 or #3 receiver on Seattle, I wonder how much impact that he will have on the bottom line when all is said and done.

Maybe he can teach Robinson and Jackson how to hang on to the ball!

Don't get me wrong...I really think Biekert was a stand up guy and a great MLB. However, he was the reason mid-way through last season that we were giving up so many rushing yards. Teams realized that if they could break a run out the the outside, the linebacking corps were too slow to catch up.

There is some truth to that statement, but sometimes it doesn't matter how fast your mind is. I'm sure most of the coaches in this league could tell you what is going on on the field before it happens, but they certainly couldn't play those positions. The physical needs to be there.

Rice is still a good player to have, as a veteran, as a coach, and as a player. He still has good receiving skills...I think he just wants to be on a team that can win one more super bowl.

I think Jerry Rice can still be productive. I'm sure he's in peak shape and he will set an example for the other Seahawks WRs. I think it's a decent gamble on Mike Holmgren's part. If Rice doesn't produce, he only lost a 7th round draft pick and it's conditional at that!

What does one do with old receivers (or when your receiver depth is already good)? I guess you try to trade them and get as much value as possible for them. It's sad to see him go. <sigh> It must be hard to put a price on the best player to ever live. Because his record precedes him, it must be hard to look him in the eye and tell him that his time has come. What can an owner do but let this guy do exactly what he wants to do (or grant him the freedom to fly away)?

Goodbye Jerry. We barely got to know you. But, you were and are THE MAN.
