Okay But This Is Getting Kinda Scary Now It’s been a little while since I indulged in my deepfakeobsession. The machine learning and AI-based technology that replaces one person’s face with another is getting better and better, and making the once hypothetical scenario of video sources becoming yet another fountain of misinformation rather than a tool of verification a reality. Deepfakes have a significant potential for sinister purpose, already being used in ways linked to abuse, fake news, fraud, explicit misogynist revenge material, and smearing activists to name just a few. It’s partly because of the inherent danger of the technology, I think, that I remain so fascinated by it. ‘Know your enemy,’ and all that. If we keep an eye on this tech’s development, we’ll be more ready to spot its use in the wild. After all, knowledge is power. And the deepfakes are getting scarily good. Exhibit number XYZ: Jerry Seinfeld transplanted into Pulp Fiction. Sure there are moments when the joins are visible and things get a bit wonky, but overall this is unnervingly good: https://www.pajiba.com/miscellaneou...5ASDgZtmJzXN5KFIEKM4b2jH5zUA1laF_eV4bHPnZVoh0
The worst thing about that was the laughing. It was too loud and obnoxious. But if they can make that jerry look good, how come Princess Leah and Luke Skywalker look so cheeseball.
