http://www.nba.com/video/teams/lakers/2010/02/01/JerryWestInterviewPart2-1216111/index.html In an interview from NBA.com, Mr. Clutch says that: "This will be his greatest year ever as a basketball player, he will be the most valuable player this year, he will be, his play has been that great" He based this on kobe's performance all throughout the year (5 game winners, etc) I don't know... pretty bold statements, and the lakers aren't even #1 anymore
I think it's going to be close, and obviously I'd love to see him win another. However, as long as he wins another Finals MVP, I'll be thrilled.
LeBron's gonna get it unless the Cavs go in an extended losing streak. LeBron's stats + better record always get the writer's love.
You assume the Cavs finish with the better record. The fact that the writers love him so much is what will kill Kobe.
Kobe still has this "selfish" stigma attached to him. When other players drop 40 or 50 points they get praised for having a dominant performance. When Kobe does it he's called a ball-hog and can't get his teammates involved. Obviously he has faults in his game, but he's still the best in the game. He's not having the most efficient season and that has a lot to do with his ailments, but at the same time he needs to get some praise for still manning up and playing through those injuries.
You should add that he's playing through injuries (specifically the finger) that 99.9% of players wouldn't play though.
This is the type of unbelievable crap the media brings up. Video The headline reads LeBron imitates Jordan's Finals move against the Lakers. LeBron's version isn't even close. LOL.
I saw that this morning on my phone when I was @ work and I damn near lost it laughing. It is disgusting how the media deep throats LeBron.
I meant just as of now, but still, even if we were to get a better record, if it ain't significantly better, I think alot of the writers are gonna fall in love with LBJ's stats and vote him to get the MVP. But, despite how much I hate the guy, I think he does deserve it though. Kobe for Finals MVP!
Kobe's shot over dwight was way better than both MJ's and Lebron's... not to mention it was way way tougher.
maybe if lebron won a finals series it could be similar, but he hasnt. anyway, the mvp has turned into a weird thing where the players playing better than others lose but players with better team records win. Counting all the variables AT THE END OF THE SEASON should determine the outcome. As of right now, you cant tell, because the most crucial part of the season hasnt started yet. Just like the rookie of the year, the person who wins is mostly the guy who didnt succumb to the ''rookie wall" in the second half of the season. I think the mvp is usually won in the second half of the season, and sometimes the first half of the season is not a good judge of how a particular player will play later in the season. If lebron maintains his numbers, preformance and attitude while his team continues to win well, then he is probably a shoe-in for mvp. If kobe regains his strength and puts up better performances and the lakers stay on top of the west then id say he is a shoe-in too. I think lebrons team could hinder his chances slightly since there are some older guys in the team that will slow things down in the second half of the season. Kobe's supporting cast is fantastic which may give him the leg up over lebron. But none of this determines anything, so its just silly speculation.
Was watching ESPN earlier, and someone made a behind the backboard shot, and ESPN called it "LeBron-esque". Now when Utah beat Cleveland, and Kyle Korver had a behind the backboard shot, they said the same shit, on ESPN highlights they even ran two images at once, one of Kyle and one of LeBron. Kobe did that this year BEFORE LeBron did it, and Kobe has done it before LeBron even showed up to the league, yet its now LeBron's move. Fuck that shit.
the year kobe got his mvp, he even said it himself, his teammates won it for him. this is a team game, and when kobe is playing his best, his teammates are his support. pau, odom, bynum, artest, fisher and shannon are responsible for being the backbone behind those big kobe performances. Without thier dedication to running the offense smooth, swift and effecciant, kobe would not get the looks he does, and he would find it harder to create on offense.
